I was going to take it on holiday to work on.
But… it’s hot and I didn’t want to sit under it while I stitched any longer than absolutely necessary. And I made good progress on the hand quilting once I got more thread. And the binding went on very easily, and I stitched it down while I listed to a podcast. So, here we are.
Higgins insisted on photobombing. He thought perhaps the Husband had a stray sausage or two in his pocket… Perfect soft evening light, true colours, no glare and an almost invisible black dog.
And a label, of course. I made it a year ago, and left the area for dates empty because it was just one of those ‘whenever’ quilts.
So that leaves the interesting question of what I’ll be working on while I’m away. You’ll have to wait and see. I am SO looking forward to this holiday. Even rain cannot dampen my enthusiasm, because it is so sorely needed where we’re going. Still a few things to do, but we’re essentially ready.
We launch at sparrowfart, me hearties.
That is soooo beautiful 😍 I love 🥰 it
Happy holidays dear girl and keep the posts coming. Hugs to Dale & the rest of the gang ♥️
It’s been a long, hot and tiring day. I shall be glad of some days ahead where I don’t have to do anything except pull something to eat out of the fridge!
And laundry 🧺😀
… of course.
Safe travels ♥️
Absolutely stunning! Enjoy your well- earned holiday!
Thank you, and I shall!
I can really appreciate all the work that’s gone into those hexies and the hand quilting, wow! I wouldn’t have thought of stripes but they give the quilt a modern look and really work.
Have a well deserved and peaceful holiday. x
I felt the busyness of the hexies needed something clean and graphic to finish it off. Glad you like it! Can’t wait to get away…
Delft is a triumph! Enjoy your holiday.
For an off-the-cuff holiday project, it turned out pretty well, I think. We’re hoping for cooler weather down south.
That is beautiful!
Happy holiday!
It’s a fun quilt. There’s a lot of detail that doesn’t make itself apparent straight away.
Impressive quilt. Lovely photo bomb 🐾 Safe travels.
I really feel it needed a lanky black greyhound to give the final touch! See you soon 😊
Absolutely gorgeous. Clearly Higgins is just an art lover.
Certainly he’s a sausage lover. He shows his quilt appreciation mainly by lying on them… I’m glad you like it!
Awesome corners! Well done you, despite thread hiccups…Hope you all have a truly delightful vacation!
Those corners gave me a bit of trouble, but they turned out well. It’s Higgins’ first time, so we shall have to wait and see how he likes it!
I love the last sentence. 🙂 That is quite a feat and well done. It turned out beautiful, of course.
I’m surprised I got it done already, but very grateful. It’s nice to have a clean, empty workspace waiting for when I get back.
Your quilt is beautiful! Hugs,
Thank you! Not bad for something started to keep my hands occupied on holiday…
That is soooooooooo pretty! Well DONE!!!
Thank you! I’m very pleased with it.
An accomplishment to truly be proud of. Love the pink binding. It took me a moment to translate your closing line – laughed out loud when I finally go it. 😁
Yes, that line is very Australian. I wondered if it would puzzle people, but it seems most have got it! The pink binding was needed, I think. Blue would have just disappeared.
So artistic. The hexies are great of course but the way you’ve finished them off with the pink corner hexies, the stripey border and the reversed corner stripes is truly inspirational. A masterpiece.
Gosh, thank you! I felt the hexies were very busy and it needed something clean and graphic for the border. Then, of course, I had to make them line up, and the corners were bare without the extra pink hexies.
Beautiful! I love how it turned out, especially the striped border.
Yes, that border gave me headaches. First, finding fabric the right colour and stripes the right width. Then, the company only sold it by the cut yard, so I had to persuade them to sell me uncut lengths, and finally, I had to get everything to line up and match the corners. But it was worth the effort.
Wow! I love the colorway – the distribution of the different saturation of blues, and the soft pink is so pretty. While the striped corners gave you a headache, they were so worth your tenacious efforts as they look amazing and add a really cool look to an already beautiful quilt.
I’ve wondered whether I was too controlling with the placement of all the hexies, but your comment reassures me it was worth the effort! Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback.
Absolutely beautiful.
Thank you!
As Pop Larkin would say “Perfick!
Like others I really like the contrast of the straight lines against the angles of the hexies.
So do I! It was worth the bother and I love the result.
I think Higgins needs to post about his role as a professional quilt inspector!
The quilt came out wonderful! Congratulations on the finish!
Higgins is a bit challenged when it comes to the finer things. So long as it’s comfy, it could be any colour… I’m glad you like it, your opinion is much more informed than his!
It’s beautiful, I love the effect of the dotty hexies, they almost sparkle! Enjoy your holiday!
Yes! I had quite a lot of that fabric, and had to arrange it carefully for the best effect. It’s dreadfully hot, but at least we’re heading south into cooler weather…
Fantastic, love the pink hexie corners with the matching binding. The stripy border sets it off perfectly. Have a wonderful, relaxing holiday.
It works well, I think. Not an obvious choice for a dark blue and white quilt, but it’s fresh and pretty.
My favorite kind of quilt -hand sewn with tiny pieces, representing a HUGE amount of work, but, gosh, what a result. As always, my cap is off to you. I say this knowing I have no expertise or right to comment because I will never, ever have the patience and skill to create such beauty,
It really only starts to feel huge once I’m actually joining bits together, as it gets very cumbersome and stiff with the papers in it. And at the quilting stage too, of course…. But all in all, I enjoyed it!
I saw this before but it looks like I failed to leave a comment. That is quite the achievement. You never fail to impress with your skill, amount of work completed and creativity. It’s taking me forever to get the smallest things finished but you inspire me to keep going. It’s such a beautiful quilt.
It all started out as a bit of busy-work for an earlier caravan trip, and just look how it ended up! Maybe in another 3 years you’ll be seeing the busy-work I have along with me this time!
Wooooowww !!!!!! so very pretty !!!!
And *Finished* at last!
It doesn’t really matter how fast you finnish a quilt, as long as you get it done in the end. And it was worth to finnish it !!
True!
