A whole one block this month, but given everything that’s been happening, I’m quite pleased 🙂
I think I need about 4 more blocks and then I can start assembling this quilt. I’m going to need a whole bunch of prairie points, but that’s a piece of cake; it’s just 2½” strips cut into squares and ironed into triangles. The quilt itself won’t be a truly scrappy one: if I can find it, I want to use a dark grey shot cotton sashing in between the blocks, and that will be new fabric. Also, depending on how enthusiastic I’m feeling, the back may also be ‘big’ scrappy, or simply a big piece of generic wideback fabric.
Once again, it’s the day my friend Gun in Sweden and I host ScrapHappy, a day for showing something made from scraps.
ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps – no new fabrics. It can be a random or formal quilt block, a pillow or pincushion, a bag or hat, a collage or rag rug. Anything made of scraps is eligible. If your scrap collection is out of control and you’d like to turn them into something beautiful instead of leaving them to collect dust in the cupboard, why not join us on the 15th of each month? Either email me at the address shown on my Contact Me page, or leave a comment below. You can also contact Gun via her blog to join. You don’t have to worry about a long term commitment or even join in every month, just let either of us know a day or so in advance if you’re new and you’ll have something to show, so we can add your link.
Here are the links for everyone who joins ScrapHappy from time to time (they may not post every time, but their blogs are still worth looking at):

See you again, same time next month!
I have lots of bright scraps. I’m thinking of making 16-patches, and then framing them with star points set in butter yellow. Sashings in ? turquoise? Maybe. We’ll see. It would be a slow-moving project, just for using up scraps in a more productive way than I have been.
Turquoise, or bright green, maybe? It’d be such a fun quilt. If you do decide to go ahead with the project, we’d love to have you in ScrapHappy. Let me know!
I got a whole quilt top made this time! I’m proud of you for sticking to one block. ;- )
Oh, the back was barking at me by the time I finished just this one. It wasn’t so much the sewing as the cutting and pressing which make me sore. I’d have loved to be able to crank out a few more, but you have to listen when your body says no.
I’m glad to hear that you ARE listening.
Hard to ignore that particular message…
Such a bright cheerful block. It’s amazing what can be made from those scraps isn’t it!
Each square I cut is just under 2 inches square, and it’s surprising how many of my really tiny scraps I can actually use up.
I love how your scraps are all so bright – says a huge amount about the kind of patchwork projects you do ^^
I do have more slightly dull and dark scraps, but I want the finished quilt to be really bright and fresh, so I’m making use of the brightest pieces! But you’ll notice each block has a combination of light, dark, bright, pale and contrasting. It gives the blocks a good balance.

Ilike the idea of grey sashing which will help to spotlight the vivid colours of the blocks.
My response to Scrap Happy this week is a confession!
The sashing was always going to be navy or grey, I wanted colour, but fairly neutral. Black’s too heavy, white’s used too often, so grey was the answer. It remains to be seen if I can find what I want!
Being a bit late on posting my Scrap Happy Day, I finally got control over my PC 🙂 Love your scrappy block!
Thank you! You’re not late for where you are, anyway 🙂
Gr8 idea. I have an applique I need to finish which is all from my scraps, and recycled clothes swatches. Perhaps I could join in, and get it done.
Good idea! There’s no long term commitment, but we always post on the 15th of the month. I send out an email to remind everyone on the English speaking side a few days before, and Gun does the same at her end. If you’d like to join in, drop me an email using the Contact Me info, I’ll put you on the email reminder list, and I’ll add a link to you in the ‘sometimes’ section of the ScrapHappy post, so people can click over and see what you’re working on.
Very happy scrappy! I think even with the gray, it’s still a scrappy quilt.
Lots of scrappyness, united by a little calm…
