Block 11, now that I have no more excuses!
We were away on holiday last time, and this particular block needs my big sewing machine, to do all the blanket stitch, not to mention a large number of assorted supplies. So this time, I had to get a block ready, because, well, isolation = no excuse. (I told myself I’d post more often while I was confined to barracks, and so far, it’s been 5 for 5, not bad going for unplanned, spontaneous posting).
I don’t love this block, but looking at the rest, I decided we needed some quieter ones amidst all the hectic colour. This one and the next are a little more subdued. After that, I’ll crack on with the brights again. I have the fabrics sorted for the next block, but I had other things on and couldn’t quite get a second one done. By other things, I mean domestic concerns that are a bit too mundane to make interesting reading, before you get excited about new projects.
So, here we are:
Bee, Myself and I is a forum for ‘selfish sewing’; any stitchery which is purely for pleasure and not to a deadline or for anyone else. The original concept belongs to Carla of Granny Maud’s Girl. To find out more, you can click through on either her blog link, or using the button a fair way down in the left hand column of this blog.
And while I think of it, today is our copper or wool anniversary, depending on which country you live in. Happy Anniversary, Husband ❤
Until next time…
Happy anniversary! That’s a pretty amazing block.
Thank you – after 7 years, I can safely say he’s a keeper 🙂
The block is called Parterre, and I designed it last year. I’m going to make an entire quilt in the same blocks, but all different fabrics for the flowers and leaves, and the same fabric for the dark grey background.
Beautiful block 😍
Here’s to love & laughter & happily ever after ♥️ Give Big J a hug from us as well & im messaging you as well xxxx
Oh, I’ll pass that hug on with great pleasure 🙂
Every garden has the quieter, less showy flowers – so I’m sure in the end this will find the perfect spot and be …. well, perfect 🙂 ❤
The eye needs somewhere to rest in the midst of busy pattern and colour, don’t you think?
It does – that’s why nature gave us leaves too….
That’s a cool block (I may have said that before, oh well . . .) Whenever I’m making a sampler,(and though this is a repeat block, it is a fabric sampler), about 3/4 through I do as you did, lay them out and see what I am missing.
You’re right, it is a sampler, in the same way that the Hatbox quilt was. I put the blocks to date up, and it was begging for some quiet(er) space.
Happy Anniversary Kate! I really like this block. I like the circles mixed with the straight lines of the stem and block itself. Great job!!
Thank you! I actually dreamed this block, and had to scribble it down quickly when I woke up! I think it’s going to look great when they’re all joined together, probably with a narrow black sashing.
Happy anniversary, you two. From the sound of things, you’ve got this marriage thing down pat xxx
I think there’s a lot to be said for marrying when you’re proper grown ups and have got past that whole hormone-driven scenario, and understand that give and take is a part of life. Also, I was saggy when he met me, so I’m not paranoid about getting a bit saggier!
Laughing! Nothing wrong with a bit of sag – goodness knows I have enough 😉
Happy Anniversary to the Lord and Lady of Chiconia. Xx
Thank you 🙂 It isn’t quite how we’d envisaged spending the day, but this is the current reality, and I have a ‘credit note’ for a lovely lunch when social isolation is all done.
happy anniversary. xx
Thank you! It just goes to show that even oldies like us aren’t too set in our ways to adapt to another person full-time 🙂
lol. Compromise is the key to success in everything in my life. x
Likewise – and rational, calm negotiation. And not sulking. And saying sorry. 🙂
absolutely
Congratulations on the wedding anniversary, hope you have a wonderful day. I really like this block.
The day hasn’t been anything special: wake up, feed and walk dog, make coffee for late-waking husband after night shift, Stay at home while Husband shops. Do laundry, load dishwasher. Stay at home some more. Wave Husband off to work. Stay home a bit. Read and sew, stay home. Well, you get the idea. But we WILL do something lovely when live returns to as normal as it’s ever going to get AV (after virus).
Happy Anniversary! Here’s to a great many more as you grow old disgracefully together! The block is lovely. Until I started reading your blog I hadn’t come across blocks that were pictures rather than combinations of squares, triangles of such like shapes. I really liked the hatbox one and this will be beautiful too. Thank you for inspiring me to be more creative and less hidebound.
I’ve done quite a few that were pictorial (Tree of Life, Bookcase, Hatbox… Take a look at my Chiconian Quilts page if you want to see a few more.
I will!
Happy anniversary !!
Tell me, does the 7-year-itch start at 7 or end at 7. Either way from your blog you don’t sound itchy so you’ve got nothing to scratch.
Congratulations and here’s to the next 7
XX
I think it’s supposed to start, but no sign of it here 🙂 I wish we had more years ahead of us, but we were late starters!
look upon it as quality rather than quantity
Happy Anniversary! Your parterre block is great! So we all stay at home and sew 🙂 I´m glad I have this hobby! What more is there to do? We are all feeling great, so I can´t complain. Life almost goes on as usual! Yesterday we had spring and today we have winter. A bit backwards, but it´s March and there has been no snow since last year! Right now the DH and the cat are sleeping on the floor! Don´t ask me why 🙂 Maybe they just wanted to be near me!
This is a crazy world out there. I hope you are feeling well and may the toilet paper last forever 🙂 / Gun
Life is rather different and strange here, but it hasn’t affected me too much. I’m so glad I have projects and ideas to keep me busy, Mouse to keep me company, and a Husband who appreciates me. I am very fortunate.
Happy Anniversary from across the seas to wish you happiness and health in the coming year 🙂
Thank you very much; the latter is particularly important right now, isn’ it?
Happy Anniversary! Hopefully, Mouse made you guys breakfast in bed (or at least came in for a snuggle) as a dutiful child should do. 😊😉
The block is lovely — looking forward to seeing the next one!
Sadly, we missed out on that. I must remind Mouse about his kitchen duties for next year, bwahahaha! But we get a good snuggle every morning, so I can’t really complain 🙂
It is a pretty block as always !! Happy Anniversary to you both !!
Thank you so much!
Happy anniversary!
Thanks!
Happy Anniversary and I’m intrigued by your “block” – I did read your post yesterday, but it appears I forgot to comment. That may have happened when I was so involved in the “Kitset cake making” episode…” periods of which involved returning to kitchen to assist or similar…
Thank you! And for the next post, I think I’ll have to put them all up on the design wall to photograph, so I can see how they’re playing together and where the colour gaps are…
