This is my third and most complicated star.
I’m not kidding; there are 60 pieces in total. It’s called Basketweave Braid Star, a paper piecing pattern by Nydia Kehnle. I wanted to use darks and lights and incorporate some unlikely brights, and I think it works well. It was actually pretty easy, but my word, there are lots of little bits… I know not all the colours are strictly teal, but that dotty print really adds a bit of Scinteallation, I think.
There are six more to come now. Two from Nanette down in New South Wales, two from Margaret in the UK and two from Lynda in the US.
It’s going to be next week before I see anything, so I might take a look at that block I’m working on for my next Bee, Myself and I project. Hopefully, I’ll have something to show you soon.
Teal then…. (sorry!)
Wowza … that’s amazing… love it 😍
Always first off the blocks! Thank you, my lovely, I’m rather pleased with it myself!
You should be … your talent knows no bounds xxx
🙂
Very twinkly indeed. I think the lighter blues, used in moderation, help lift the general ‘tealness’ of the blocks.
I agree. Some of the other blocks have tiny flashes of other colours, and I love the effect. One of these days, I’ll introduce a completely different colour to add to the teal in small quantities…
pretty pretty pretty !!!
Thanks, Rita. I really enjoyed working on this one, despite the number of pieces.
So many teals so little time, and yet, you’ve done it again! Very beautiful.
Stupidly little time this time round, and I won’t make the same mistake next time! But it has worked out OK, and once I have the last six in, I can finalise the layout and start quilting!
Gorgeous, Kate!
Thanks, Alys, I think it works 🙂
Very complicated indeed but heautiful…and I loved your sign off 🙂 teal then 🙂
I have a dreadful tendency to pun at the drop of a hat…
Sixty pieces? I teal you, that is beyond amazing!
Hehehe! Steal, they can’t all be simple…
This is a lovely block. I am impressed with the number of pieces!
I am too, although it wasn’t very hard to make!
It’s amazing, i love the fade from dark at the edges to bright in the middle
Yes, I’m pleased with that effect! Lots of sifting through the scraps to find a suitable colour gradient, but it paid off.
A beautiful star!
🙂
[…] I decided to try a paper-piecing pattern shared by Kate on her blog. Kate is collecting gorgeous quilt squares to include in an ovarian cancer fundraising quilt. She’s done several over the years, with blocks she and other quilters create based on a theme and the color teal. You can read more about her efforts here. […]
