A surprise squishy arrived the other day.
I wasn’t really expecting anything, so it came as a lovely surprise to realise that it was from Sue of From the Magpie’s Nest, and it was my last F²F³ blocks of the F2F 2018/19 session. Poor Sue has been suffering from an injured shoulder which is taking ages to heal and is cramping her sewing style dreadfully, so I’m very grateful that she made the effort on my behalf.
So, without further ado, here they are:
I love them all, but the last one really tickled me! Sue knows I live in the tropics of North Queensland, Australia, and have just moved to a new and smaller house, so she’s created me a tiny tropical cottage (the sort of thing they call a chattel house in Barbados) with a palm tree outside. Even better, the dark strip at the top is the purple version of a Kaffe Fassett design called Aboriginal Spots. It’s a perfect fit 🙂 I have to decide whether to integrate this into the quilt, or make a special cushion cover out of it, but that will have to wait until I can lay out the blocks out on the design wall and can decide on a layout.
So it’s into the Amethyst & Slate project basket for now.
Lovely fabrics Sue has used and love the little palm tree design.
So, another quilt to put together! No pressure for this one though 😊
No indeed. If this one’s anything like BougieNights, it’ll take about a year to get round to it! But I’ve given it a basket in the WIP section of my storage, so it reminds me to do something about it.
Sue’s made great colour and design choices, love the little house with it’s palm tree. It’s going to be a great quilt.
They are lovely, aren’t they? I’m kind of hoping I can make the house work as part of the quilt, but if not, it’ll be a great cushion!
The little house and palm tree are virtually demanding cushion-hood, particularly as the colours are a bit stronger than the majority of other blocks. I do love that eggplant-coloured strip of Aboriginal Dots across the top, such a rich colour, but much more saturated than the other softer lilacs, so I think a cushion is its destination 🙂
Lovely blocks and a great gift. I shall look forward to seeing the finished quilt.
The three F2F block swaps so far have produced some amazingly beautiful work, and these are the very last pieces in this year’s session. The finished quilt will take me a while to get done as it’s a fair way down my To Do list, but I’m really looking forward to working with all the gorgeous blocks in the lilac and grey colours I chose this year.
Sue did a fab job on these, the cottage cushion will be perfect!
I agree! Now to find some fabric that works for the back!
Beautiful work by Sue! I like the cushion idea too 🙂
Sue always does beautiful piecing and has the most gorgeous fabrics. As the title says, worth the wait 🙂
Sue did beautiful work!
She really did! I love that baskets block too. She has such patience…
What wonderful squares and such a thoughtful bonus.
I agree completely!
Delightful! Sue has such a good eye for the quirky.
She does, and impeccable taste in fabrics, too!
Those are impressive looking blocks. Love the cottage one- worthy of its own cushion.
Yes, and that’s almost certainly its fate – unless of course, it absolutely finds a place amongst the other blocks for the quilt.
The house with the palmtree, that´s a winner, definitely!!!
I agree, it’s wonderful!
