F²F² December round up

Already the end of the year!  Where does the time go?

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 7.32.54 pmWell, everyone has had a lot of fun with Gun’s pink, blue and yellow colour scheme. There are some really gorgeous blocks over in the gallery. Due to the extra busyness of the season, we are still awaiting two sets of blocks, but I hope they will be added to the line up soon.

January is Esther’s turn, and she’s chosen hot pink/magenta, muted dark green and grey on a white or cream background. She also prefers fabrics that read as solids or have small scale patterns. She’s provided a lovely photo as colour reference, so take a look at the Members’ colour page to see what she’s thinking. And then after Esther, it’ll be time for Claire’s turn, and something completely different!

At this turn of the year, it seems an appropriate time to tell you that this is the final F²F Sue and I will be running. We have other interests and goals to pursue, and the admin can be a little time-consuming. I have enjoyed it enormously, but now I want to turn my attention elsewhere. If any of the existing members wishes to continue, or indeed, administer the project, I will be delighted to turn it over to them, including administration of the Footsquare Freestyle blog, so let me know if you fancy a turn at the helm!

A happy New Year to you all 🙂

F²F² December progress report

A bit late this month, I’m sorry about that!

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 7.32.54 pmSo far, we have six of the 9 sets of blocks done, and they’re looking gorgeous! Gun’s colour choice of bright pink, blue and yellow is producing some really lovely combinations of shapes and colours, and I think her final quilt should be beautifully fresh and happy.

I’m delighted this morning myself, because my last set of blocks, which came from Esther in the Netherlands, arrived this morning to complete the set.  Making up my F²F² quilt is going to be high on the priority list for next year.

Do hop over to the gallery page and see what has been done so far 🙂

F²F² November round up

Sorry I’m late with this, but I had something urgent and unplanned to do for the last two days, and there was no opportunity to get this post written, let alone published!

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 7.32.54 pmSo, November is all but done. All the blocks barring one set are made, and if not yet received, then at least in transit. Esther is having a struggle to find sewing time and space; she has sold her apartment and is camping with her family till her new home is ready. I imagine her sewing things are mostly packed away and she has not much space to work in, hence the understandable delay with her blocks. The blocks that have already been completed are there in the gallery; they’re lovely, and worth a visit.

December is Gun’s month. She has chosen pink, yellow and blue, in vivid, bright shades – hop over and take a look at her inspiration photo on the Members page, and you’ll see how harmoniously they work together. I definitely need to go and buy more yellow!

Just to remind everyone that the Christmas season will mean mail takes longer than usual.

F²F² November progress report

So far so good!  F²F² for November is coming along well.

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 7.32.54 pmSusan’s lovely colour choice of aqua and lilac on cream has proved to be very popular, and the fabrics selected and blocks up in the gallery so far this month are just gorgeous – I especially like Lynn’s contribution, but you’ll have to go over there to see what I mean. Just click on the link above and scroll down right to the end for the most recent additions.

I’m not sure where most of November got to, myself. I haven’t started sewing Susan’s blocks, although I have the fabrics picked out. Of course, we did go away a couple of times, which will probably explain the layer of dust on my work table… Anyway, I’d better get cracking, or it’ll be December before I send my blocks out. Too embarrassing!

Can’t wait to see what the others are going to make 🙂

An antidote to laundry

So, we’re back, and I do wish we’d had a few more days.

This is despite the comfort of air conditioning and a huge and pillowy bed. If truth be told, we’re both a bit weary; trips on a motorbike are physically more demanding than travelling in a car. Also on the downside is the laundry… heaps and heaps of it. Clothes, bedding, towels and of course bike gear which has contained two hot and slightly sweaty people for about 2,040kms/1,270 miles. I wouldn’t have done without the armoured jacket and gloves and the Kevlar-lined pants, but it does make an extra couple of machine loads to deal with.

So you can imagine how delighted I was to receive a distraction, in the form of a fabulous squishy envelope from Lynn and Sandra in France, two of the F²F² participants. They sew together, so it seemed sensible to send their blocks out together. There were unseemly squeaks of delight as I opened the thing up. And then this morning, a second squishy from Moira in the US. I was literally forced to stop sorting dirty socks and open envelopes and photograph the contents… You can imagine my reluctance. Not.

So, having been inundated with all this fabulousness, I’ve created a bunch of collage shots.  Here we go.

Lynn’s three F²F² blocks, which are already up in the gallery,

As are Sandra’s lovely work,

And Moira’s pieces of gorgeousness!

Also in the parcel, centre and right, two Tealed with a Kiss blocks for a forthcoming Ovarian Cancer quilt from Lynn. At left is a block from Carla of Granny Maud’s Girl, who sent me this a while ago, but I hadn’t shown it, so a credit for this is well overdue.

And finally, the LOOT! A really beautiful piece of fabric Lynn thought would work well for my Hatbox Quilt project. She’s right! A really useful and strangely appropriate tote, also from Lynn. A seriously cute peg bag from Sandra (check out that teeny weeny appliqué on the front!), and finally, a gorgeous 3D pansy postcard from Moira.

And now, I really must go and fold clean towels, sheets and quilts. Anything but more socks… 😦

F²F² October progress report

It’s October, and my month in F²F².

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 7.32.54 pmNormally, I’d wait and see what everyone else has made before I made my blocks, but I’m too excited about this colour scheme to wait! I’ve picked out some paper piecing blocks I love – I’ve made them all before, and I think they’ll work well in the gorgeous juicy colours I’ve chosen 🙂

We’re doing well so far, four sets of blocks are on their way Down Under. Do please send me your photos when you send your blocks off, as I’m quite happy to see what’s coming and post the images in the gallery. I hope some of them come before I go on holiday, to spread the joy a little…

I’ve put a couple of my blocks up in the F²F² gallery page too, so anyone who’s hesitating about colours can see what I’m using. There’s a third to come, and I may still make a fourth block, I’m loving these colours so much…

My F²F² quilt is going to be brilliant – literally!

F²F² September round up

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 7.32.54 pmIt’s been a patriotic sort of colour month this September.

Moira’s colour scheme of red, blue and gold with a white or cream background has produced a fascinating collection of designs for her American Hero Quilts. We’re all past the post in time this month, and it’s a great set of blocks for Moira’s good work on behalf of US service people.

Head over to the new F²F² gallery page to see the range, it’s really impressive. Scroll all  the way to the bottom, new images are added at the end.

October is my month, woo hoo! I’m very excited to see what everyone comes up with for my Dark Navy/Hot Pink/Bright Orange colour scheme.  For inspiration, take a look at my images on the members’ colours page – the brighter the better, as far as I’m concerned :-).  I’ll be adding the photos of everyone’s work as usual, so please send them to me as you get them done – the pleasure of seeing what’s coming will outweigh any small lack of surprise. I dearly love a squishie, and now there’s going to be a whole bunch on the way!

Till the next time…

F²F² September progress report

I’m a little late this month with the progress report, mundane stuff got in the way 🙂

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 7.32.54 pmJust over halfway through September (where did the time go?) and we are only missing three sets of blocks to complete the month! For a miracle, I’ve sent off my own completed blocks this morning, instead of leaving it embarrassingly late as usual. The F²F² colours and blocks in this second round continue to delight me, and I’m eagerly anticipating my turn!

Moira’s colour scheme is one of the all-time classics, and there are some beautiful blocks happening over in the F²F² gallery, if you want to jump over there and take a look. Moira is planning to use her blocks to create American Hero quilts, and if you click through this link, you can read more about the excellent work this organisation does.

Lynn has posted that she has sandwiched all her blocks and is ready to start quilting her F²F² quilt. She’s putting the rest of us to shame, having already completed her F2F1 quilt, and very gorgeous it is too.  This one is going to Mr Tialys, and the colour scheme and overall designs of the blocks are perfect!

F²F² August round up

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 7.32.54 pmAnother fun month with colour!

Sue’s colour combination of black with orange and yellow has been tremendous fun, and it looks as everyone has enjoyed themselves with it!  Whatever she ends up doing with her blocks is going to be spectacular.

We’re nearly all past the post in time this month; only one of us still to go (Esther has been busy with a paintbrush as she is redecorating her home), but I’m sure it won’t be long.

Head over to the new F²F² gallery page to see the range, it’s really impressive. Scroll all  the way to the bottom, new images are added at the end.

September is Moira’s turn, and she’s chosen Red, Blue and Gold as her colour choices. There’s an image on the Members and their Colours page which shows her source of inspiration. Moira makes American Hero Quilts for the US armed forces, and this is what her blocks will be used for – click on the link and see what important work this is.

Time to go and dig out all my reds, blues and golds and decide what to make with them!

UPDATE: Esther has finished her blocks and they’re up in the gallery. The August session is complete 🙂

F²F² July round up

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 7.32.54 pmI had such fun with the colours this month!

Sandra chose a lovely colour combination of plum, light green and cream, and within that there’s been a unique range of interpretations that look fabulous together in the gallery.  I think the finished quilt is going to be very, very special, and I hope Sandra will love the process enough to want to play again!

We’re all past the post in time this month; new members mostly well ahead of time and previous participants remembering how long it actually takes to get the blocks made!

Head over to the new F²F² gallery page to see the range, it’s really impressive. Scroll all  the way to the bottom, new images are added at the end.

August is Sue’s turn, and she’s chosen Orange and Yellow on Black as her colour choices. There’s an image on the Members and their Colours page which shows her source of inspiration, and it’s lovely, so vivid and striking. I’m looking forward to working on her blocks a lot :-). There are several members’ contributions already up in the gallery, so obviously the colour scheme is inspiring us already!

Time to go and dig out all my blacks – the orange and yellow are no problem!
