Welcome once again to ScrapHappy Day!
It’s the day my friend Gun in Sweden and I host ScrapHappy, a day for showing something made from scraps.
Despite spending much of the first two weeks of this month 1400km away, I’ve managed to get my ScrapHappy project done!
You remember the pretty teal tablecloth I got for my porch table? And that I wanted to make cushions for my bony porch chairs? Well, ’tis done.
Big, squishy 16″ square cushions. No zip, just a pillowcase opening, to keep things simple.
I had a 20cm scrap of a really bold rose print in pink on pale yellow, both of which picked up colours from the tablecloth. I had some odd-shaped pieces of dark teal with a bird and leaf print on it left from my last Ovarian cancer quilt, and then of course, I have loads of teal scraps and a fair few pink ones. Each cushion has two big squares on one side and scrappy strips on the other, and I’ve rotated everything so no two cushions have the same layout or strip-set repeats. I’m pretty pleased with how they look.
ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps of anything – no new materials. It can be a quilt block, pincushion, bag or hat, socks or a sculpture. Anything made of genuine scraps is eligible. If your scrap collection is out of control and you’d like to turn them into something beautiful or useful instead of leaving them to collect dust in the cupboard, why not join us on the 15th of each month? Either email me at the address on my Contact Me page, or leave a comment below. You can also contact Gun via her blog to join. We welcome new members. You don’t have to worry about making a long term commitment or even join in every month, just let either of us know a day or so in advance if you’re new and you’ll have something to show, so we can add your link. Regular contributors will receive an email reminder three days before the event.
Here are the links for everyone who joins ScrapHappy from time to time (they may not post every time, but their blogs are still worth looking at). The list below is the most current one I have, so if you’d like me to update something, let me know in the Comments. This month, we’re welcoming Edith back after an absence to do other things, and Karrin, a new member.

Those colours are to die for. It goes well with the table cloth & how much does the greenery around make it pop even more !!! Utterly beautiful 😍
I’m in the process of making another small quilt for my new bubs due soon & this will be given to her other Nana so she can have one to put baby on when she goes there.
It’s a gorgeous combo, isn’t it? One reason why the tablecloth fabric attracted me so much. And yes, the greenery is spectacular at this time of year, especially when the turmeric is growing so tall and the bromeliads are flowering. Why am I not surprised about *another* baby quilt…? The other nana will be so pleased to be able to gift one as well.
😍
Love the cushions, they look so cheerful:)
They do, but more importantly, they make the chairs *so* much more comfortable! It was a no-brainer, really…
A lovely inviting space dressed up by happy scraps!
It looks a lot better now than with the bare table and bony chairs! Also, the Husband’s brother and SIL gave me an orchid for my birthday which has miraculously survived the caravan ride home and is now being decorative and matchy-matchy on the table!
You always make things with such gorgeous, cheery-uppy colours. 💜
One of the funner things about living in the tropics is that you have total permission to go wild and bright with colour. Combinations that would have people going “whoah, pass the sunglasses” in the northern hemisphere are totally OK and work in our bright, hot light. It makes me very happy! Not that I don’t love neutrals – they make a great foil to the colour!
Lovely lovely squishy pillows!
They make a surprisingly big difference to the comfort!
Great looking pillows. Love the colors in them.
It has used up a small but significant portion of scraps, too!
They look fabulous, Kate! I wouldn’t even have thought they weren’t matching fabric. That should help comfort on the chairs. Lovely to sit and sip lemon spearmint tea and do some handwork. With a friend, of course! =)
In my case, it’s sip fizzy water and mint with a friend while we both admire our greyhounds sprawled on the cool tiles of the porch!
Another joyous creation. I hope the flowers in you garden are as flamboyant.
They are! What you can’t quite see in the photo is the scarlet hibiscus, the yellow and red bromeliad flowers, the Golden Shrimp plant, the tall broad leaves of the turmeric… You get the idea.
How wonderful
Those fabrics just say Summer! Lovely!
They do! And it’s lovely to be more comfortable, too. Before, I would just grab random cushions from wherever, but now the chairs have their own.
Much better!
Those cushions are just perfect, both in terms of comfort and appearance. I think you’ll spend many a happy hour there.
We already did, but now in considerably more comfort – and style, of course!
I would like to join. I’ll shoot for a March 15 post and let you know.
Of course! Please send me your email address and I can add you to the group reminder email that goes out on the 12th 😊
It’s my name all together at gmail. Thanks!
Okeydoke. You’re on the list and I’ll include you in next month’s reminder and add your link to the list.
Thank you so much!

all ready for tea & biccies ^^
Exactly right! And quite often, dog snacks…
everyone has already said it – gorgeous! Now, can I invite myself for tea?
By all means! Give me 15 minutes’ notice and I’ll have a batch of cookies waiting…
oh goody, I’ll check my calendar and let you know.
Great gorgeous cushions!
Thank you! It was a fun quick project, and they make such a difference to the sitting experience!
A lovely splash of color! Spectacular scraphappy! 👏👏👏
They are nice and cheerful, aren’t they? Hot bright sunshine like ours needs strong colour, and I’m afraid these will fade in quite a short time, but that’s the nature of living in a tropical climate.
Nice bright cushions for your cute chairs
The chairs are nice, but a bit hard, so the cushions take care of the problem nicely!
Great looking pillows! You know I like bright colors and these are perfect! Now I must hurry back to my blog and update it. I forgot Edith 🙂
They’re nice and summery. And I’ll have another new name for you next month, too!
Is it Alissa Head?
Yes, both Alissa and Amo. I’ll send out an updated contact list in advance, as usual.
And Amo?
Perfect with your table cloth!
It’s such a nice space, I don’t know how you get any sewing done, I would sit there with a book and never move.
I’d probably sit there longer if it wasn’t so hot! Early mornings are nice, and later in the year when it cools down, I’ll be using it more. And it’s a very good spot for hand sewing too!
Perfect for that spot! I love the color combination. Nothing goes to waste around you. 🙂 Good work once again.
It’s a lovely combo, which I suppose is what drew me to that tablecloth in the first place. Glad you like it. If only we could sit there together and visit.
I”m catching my breath. We will try soon.
😊
Lovely space and cushions. I hanker for a decent veranda.
Please May I be put on the scraphappy list too?
Thank you, and of course! I’ve emailed you some info; could you check and confirm I have your name and contact details right? If you don’t get an email (or you’ve updated since you set up your WP account), could you send me a message using the info on my Contact Me page and we’ll try again. Welcome to the group!
Hi Kate, will use your contact page.
Okeydoke. I got your email and have replied, but it’s exactly the same address as the one I used, so who knows what’s going on… Let me know if that one doesn’t arrive either, would you?
