Midwinter sunset

Down here, it’s the middle of winter.

The temperatures recently have been very chilly for our tropical latitude. Not what the south would call cold (or indeed, the northern hemisphere), but for us thin blooded types, it’s perishing! Although we’ve had days of heavy rain and chilly winds from Cairns south to Sydney, tonight there was a short break in the dismal deluge, just long enough to give us this:

Which, I think you’ll agree, is about as triumphant a sunset as they get.

Tomorrow, it’ll probably be pouring again…

Love the trees silhouetted against the firey sky.

  6. A splendiferous end to a day of dismal chill and rain!

  7. Amazing… sky’s afire! Somewhat soggy and cool here too further south. Ah… the weather.

  8. That is one stunning sunset! I heard Sydney got too much rain and was doing some flooding. Our rain keeps missing us and we need it.

Sydney did indeed suffer a lot too much water! Amazing that you heard about that there… Today is beautiful, cool but brilliant sunshine and empty, wide blue skies. So much rain in winter is very, very unusual for us; it’s normally our dry season.

      • It seems nothing is usual anymore. I do not get a news feed either but I think I saw it on my weather app. We get flooding too because we are desert and the ground does not soak up the water well. But we are not getting rain. ;(
