Can You Teal the Love has kicked off.
I have 4 blocks on the way from contributors already, more promised, and have finally got under way with my own.
Block 1 is a scrappy 16-patch with appliquéd hearts; the teal fabrics are from previous quilts and the pinks are scraps given to me by the Husband’s Aunty Marion when she had her big pre-move to Melbourne clear out. They’re perfect!
Block 2 is a mixture. The heart is a scrap of the fabric I used to make a dress about 6 months ago. The frame and background fabrics are new, bought with the donated Spotlight gift card I mentioned in the previous Ovarian Cancer post.
Block 3 is entirely recycled. The scrappy log cabin background was made for the In the Arms of the Angels quilt but wasn’t used as other blocks simply worked better in that space. (To the maker: You know who you are and why I haven’t attributed it 💗).
However, I never throw anything away, especially when it’s as pretty as this and it’s teal, and this made a perfect background for the tiny pink heart, itself a scrap from a previous quilt.
That’s where I’m up to so far. Only 10% of the total 30 blocks needed, but given how quickly these came together and how many more ideas I have, it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle to hit to total in a reasonable time frame.

More winging their way to you from me. I know I promised two but I think I took the lighter values a bit far in one of them and it might be unusable so did three. xx
Not to worry, I expected there to be quite a lot of variation. so I’m going to be making both light and dark too. It just so happened I started with the dark ones. And as you know, I will always be able to make use of anything you produce.

There were at least four fabrics in the tub she passed on which I could make immediate use of, and lots I could foresee using, so it was a win-win!
Will all the blocks have a heart on them? The 3 you show are beautiful.
Yes, a heart is the common theme, relating to the name *Can You Feel the Love*. That, and the use of a bit of pink. Some blocks will have more, some less. Some will be light and some darker. It’ll make the quilt lively and fun to look at.

Aha, you are already braced for a visit by the quilt police, then 😉 I’m sure they’ll all be fine, I have no doubt you’ve made an excellent job of it.
Oh – these are so beautiful. I never thought of appliqué for the heart 🙂 perfect! (as you know, mine is on its way)
I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ve made! I’ll be making other blocks where the heart is pieced, but these were quick and easy, so I thought I’d get them out of the way.

I’m loving how pretty these are, and how much life that extra bit of colour adds. It’s confirmation that it’s OK to add a bit to future quilts to keep them interesting, so long as teal predominates and is the constant.

Heart blocks are fun. I’m sure the parts department could use a few… when you have the time!
HEARTS!!! Hearts are hard to sew—yours are perfect. I love all the different ‘just right’ colors!
I take it slowly, and I’ve had lots of practice sewing the Parterre blocks by the same method, so that helps. I’m so glad you’re liking it!

Gorgeous, the pink hearts really set the teal off.
I was going to use lots of different methods for making the hearts, but I’m on a roll with appliqué. The pink and teal combination is working well!
These are all stunning and I love them all. The second one with teal heart in teal really stands out for me. I’m catching up here and loving each of these blocks.
