Parterre: a bit of eye-candy

Just a little something to please the eye…

I’ve decided it’s going to be a bit bigger. Originally, I was going for a 5×6 block layout, 30 blocks in total. However, normally I work with 12 inch blocks, and these are only 10 inch blocks, so 5×6 didn’t give me a functional quilt, only a decorative one. So, I’m going to make it 6×7, which will give me something I can snuggle under. I’ve made 25 blocks now. Another 17 to go…

And without further ado, here’s where we are so far. This isn’t any kind of a considered layout, it’s an auto-fill from a free online collage-maker.

And already, I’m in love with it ❤️❤️❤️….

It’s going to be spectacular!

It is so vibrant and full of joy, Kate! As I don’t have to make them, I can happily say that another 17 will finish it off beautifully. 💜

    ME TOO!!! ME TOO!!!

  6. Wow. I’ll say. It’s gorgeous and cheering.

  7. WOW!!! I agree, I’m already in love with it too. It feels so happy.

  8. I love it too. I think I might be tempted to try orienting them so they are facing outwards though, more like a meadow. It’s really, really #CheeryUppy, and despite all the brightness it’s calming. How do you do it?! You are so very talented.

I’ve been tempted to turn them so the flower heads are oriented towards each side, but it gets complicated unless I make the quilt much bigger and then what do I do in the centre. I *could* make a central medallion and arrange all the blocks around that, but…. complications. I think the very dullness of the grey surrounds are what keeps all the exuberance under control. I do love grey, it’s so… useful!

Now you’ve laid all the blocks out, I can see it’s going to be even better than I imagined.

There are still more to come, and I find laying them out from time to time helps me see where there are gaps in the colour story. For example, I can see I definitely need some more dark ones, and there are plenty of bright greens!

That is so colourful but the repeat pattern and the pale plain fabric behind the flowers stops it being overwhelming. I love it!

    • katechiconi says:

Yes, exactly. It almost forms a sort of geometric print effect. But if you zoom in really closely, you’ll see that the cream backgrounds are different tone-on-tone prints, two in each block. Just for a bit of extra fun, you understand!

love how the bright colours pop on the grey!

wow ~ this is stunning – a blue ribbon winner 🙂

Eye candy is an understatement – that is so pretty. I had a hard time visualizing the whole as you were showing block by block. All together, all the different colors and prints makes such a statement. Well done.

Thank you, that’s so kind! I think it will be even better when there are no white lines separating each block, too. I’m debating what colour to use for the sashing. I don’t have enough of the grey, I definitely don’t want a light colour, but black is too harsh. Maybe I’ll be able to find a darker charcoal when the time comes. That would work.

I said to myself the last time I was behind on blogs, “well it’s Sunday, and I shall always catch up on Sunday…” errr seems that’s not going to work..

But absolutely love the blocks, and as many have said cheerful-as.

The best of intentions sometimes fall by the wayside. I’d intended to try and post and comment at least every other day, but that hasn’t happened either. Still, it’s fun to show stuff when I *have* had the time to make it!
