Welcome once again to ScrapHappy Day!
It’s the day my friend Gun in Sweden and I host ScrapHappy, a day for showing something made from scraps.
Here’s Block 13 of the Hopscotch quilt for Days for Girls. I haven’t got a lot done on this quilt in the last month, but one block is better than no blocks. I’ve also traced and cut the pattern for the patchwork tote I’ll be making as another raffle prize, but bits of paper doesn’t make an interesting photo, so for that you’ll have to wait for a month where there’s more on that project to show you.
ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps of anything – no new materials. It can be a quilt block, pincushion, bag or hat, socks or a sculpture. Anything made of genuine scraps is eligible. If your scrap collection is out of control and you’d like to turn them into something beautiful or useful instead of leaving them to collect dust in the cupboard, why not join us on the 15th of each month? Either email me at the address on my Contact Me page, or leave a comment below. You can also contact Gun via her blog to join. We welcome new members. You don’t have to worry about making a long term commitment or even join in every month, just let either of us know a day or so in advance if you’re new and you’ll have something to show, so we can add your link. Regular contributors will receive an email reminder three days before the event.
Here are the links for everyone who joins ScrapHappy from time to time (they may not post every time, but their blogs are still worth looking at).
Today we are also welcoming Jule to the group. She tells me she has a lot of scraps that need dealing with, so I’m looking forward to seeing what she has for us.

See you next time for more scrappy loveliness.
The Tote sounds very exciting 🤩
It’s a beautiful pattern, but fairly complicated with lots of asymmetrical panels, so it’ll take a while. I’m in no rush…
It’s going to be fun to see this quilt come together. Scrappy will always be my favorite type of quilt!
It’ll be slow but steady. I have a lot of other things on at present, and finishing my niece’s quilt must take priority. But I’ll get there!
another lovely block. looking forward to seeing the tote.
Me too, but there’s a bit of work to do first, sorting scraps, making panels to fit the pieces, etc, and of course I still have to finish making up the last of the squares. Still, no deadline (which of course means it get put on the back burner) so no rush.
I’ve stared and stared at your block, trying to put into words what makes a collection of random little squares so entrancing to my eye. It is just lovely.
It’s not exactly a formula, it’s more that you need to mix graphic and bold with ditsy and tiny, pastel with bright, dark with light. The finished thing mustn’t have any black holes or glaring light patches. It’s all about instinct!
Love all the colour.
Me too 🙂
So many different fabrics – I’m sure you’re probably having to repeat some of them but, still, it’s looking like a charm quilt.
There are quite a few repetitions, but I try and mix it up as much as possible. It helps that the variety at my disposal is quite wide!
Such a bright and cheery block.
Yes, some of the fabrics would be totally OTT in large quantities, but as an accent they’re very successful.
a gorgeous block 13 ^^
Thanks, I like this one a lot!
Nice block! I’m off to work on some garment sewing…why??? So I can have more scraps! hehe! I’ve got to get some garments made for winter, and I’m sure that afterward I’ll have enough scrappies to keep me busy through the snowy days.
You can never have too many scraps!
great to see the quilt progressing, looking forward to seeing it finished (bet you are too!)
Oh my word, yes. I need to find some fresh enthusiasm for it from somewhere!

You have so pretty squares in your block! I love strong colors, even if I right now is working on something more bright!
You need a good mixture to let these blocks work: dark and light, pale and bright, busy and plain. It’s going to be a very colourful quilt!
It is amazing what can be achieved with a few squares all different in colour and design. This is going to be a lovely quilt when finished
It is amazing, and that’s one of the great wonders of quilt making. The design is very simple, it’s the fabrics which shine, and fabrics which would be quite ugly in other contexts work beautifully here.
