Happy 5th birthday, Mouse-mouse

It is his Lordship’s 5th birthday today.

Wake up, birthday boy!

Breakfast of champions

We have a series of fun things to do and gastronomic delights planned. After a light breakfast and a saunter around the holiday park, he will be escorted by his Staff to ‘Brother Jenkins Café’, a very nice place a stone’s throw away, where he will be regaled with bacon and puppacino. A small snooze in the sun to allow that to digest, and then we will head out to Touch Park in Aeroglen, near Cairns Airport, where 3 or 4 acres have been fenced for the delight and leisure of Cairns’ doggo population. He will be free to romp, run and roam to his heart’s content.

Home again, and I will produce the Oinkers, a bag of porky delight: air dried anonymous bits of pig on the bone, sliced thin. He can make an Oinker last for at least half an hour… I also have slow-baked chicken tenders and beef and tomato jerky. So, party food taken care of, then.

If he’s in the mood, we might take him along to Ellis Beach on the Captain Cook Highway, so that he can have a good sniff about there, and a run if he feels like it. If he doesn’t, then snoozing on his Floof in the sun will be the order of the day. He’ll find a way to let us know…

It has been both a pleasure and a privilege to have our lovely boy to care for these past two years, and we hope for many more. Our recent visit to GAP has shown how important it is to find homes for these gentle, loving and rewarding dogs, to make up for the harsh and sometimes brutal lives they led before.

Wishing you many returns of this happy day, doggo.

  1. HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY darling Mouse Boy 🐾🎶🐾
Love his planned day and I’m sure he will love every minute.
I’m so glad he has you & J as parents ❤️
Having lost my 16 year old doggie this year I appreciate how much of our hearts these canines take over. 💝

I hope we are blessed with as many years with the Mouse-dog. I wish we had space for more, but the house and caravan are small and greyhounds are large!

      • Yes true … they are ever so slightly long 🥰
If we didn’t travel so much I would definitely get another doggie or two … but Js heart is with his Timmy … he trained him and Timmy did not need a voice to tell him anything….J’s hand would talk to him. It was just magic seeing the connection between Father & second Son 💝

I’m sure I will miss Mouse-dog bitterly when his time comes, but he’s shown me how rewarding life is with a lovely grey to care for, so there would be another to give a loving home to after a hard life.

Happiest of birthday salutations to Mr. Mousiekins! ❤️❤️ May you all have many more birthdays, long sniffs, zoomies, floof naps, and chicken necks together! And may we read about them!

    • katechiconi says:

Thank you, Miss Marty! I’ve had a great sniff-walk this morning, and pats and chats, I’m having a quick floof-snooze, and then I think it’s time for the dog park!

Leah Mae says “happy mow day”. Happy birthday, mouse.🎉

Happy Birthday Mouse! Enjoy your day, I think your treats sound yummy! My mom won’t give me treats like she used to. She says I sleep too much and walk too little for more, but I know she’s wrong, I have a high metabolism. Your friend in South Dakota, Max

    • katechiconi says:

Thanks, Miss Kathy and Max! It has been a really good day, and the Staff made a big effort. There have been lots of treats, I got an especially nice dinner, and a big run in the park as well as extra walkies. Tired, but happy, Mouse x

  5. Happy birthday to Mouse. Sounds like a marvelous day the Staff have planned for you, and you are the most deserving of birthday boys xxx

What a wonderful birthday Mouse! My birthday is on the same day as Mum and it seems to me she gets all the treats and I am just an afterthought. Maybe I’ll demand an ‘official’ birthday like the Queen so that I can be spoiled on an individual basis like you.
    Stan 🐾

    • katechiconi says:

Hi Stan, I’m not sure what would have happened about my birthday if it hadn’t been written on my papers… Mum’s family always celebrated birthdays for their animals, even the horses, so I’m pretty sure there’d have been something. Hold out for your own day, Stan. Everyone has – and deserves – a birthday.

      • tialys says:

I will try to get an additional day but my actual birthday (as on the papers of the place where I was born) really is the same day as Mum’s. The first family I went to live with as a puppy never changed the microchip to their address so when I was found and scanned Mum phoned and it was the lady who had me when I was born. She contacted the family she sold/gave me to and they didn’t want me back. She had my original papers though so the birthday is clear. Now I’ve made Mum feel guilty she says, next year, she’ll be sure to make it special – especially as I’ll be twelve!!

      • katechiconi says:

Gosh, Stan, that’s a real coincidence! I wouldn’t worry about making your Mum feel guilty, though; in my experience the guiltier they feel the more easily the treats are extracted! And twelve is really impressive – you’re looking good for your age, my friend.

  7. Happy Birthday Mouse. Have a lovely day. R&O

I’m so glad you and your hubby have him….and he has you! Happy Birthday, Mouse!

Happy Birthday Mouse! Hope my Mum is taking note of all the treats you’re getting on this special day! I’m going to be 5 on 6th September. Gibbs (pedigree name Mako, but since my best friend, a chocolate lab, is called Moka, my staff decided it would just get too confusing so my name was changed when I came to live with them).

    • katechiconi says:

Hi Gibbs! Mum and Dad did the same: my racing name was Limit Man, and my kennel name was Monty, but they said I just didn’t look like a Monty, and with a pointy nose, big ears and a shy nature they said I was more like a mouse, so…. I got loads of treats yesterday, but knowing how strict Mum is usually, I don’t think there’ll be many (if any) today. Still, there’s no harm trying, is there? Mouse ∑:>

  11. Happy Birthday Mouse. We hope it was an excellent day 🐾♡♡

    • katechiconi says:

Hi Aunty Dale! Thank you! Mum says this comment went into her spam folder for some weird reason, but we have rescued it ∑:> I had a lovely day. I’m wondering if I can have another birthday next week… (no, you definitely can’t – Mum)

  12. Happy birthday, Mouse. I wish I lived closer so I could give you a good pet and a biscuit.

  13. Terri says:

Happy birthday Mouse!! Sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate. -Peanut.

  14. cedar51 says:

Happy Birthday Mouse (Late to the party) but I guess all the treats have been eaten, the dog park messages given out, and you and Bad Monkey have had some shuteye.

  15. Steph and Shinee the whippet says:

Happiest of happy birthdays, Mouse, and may you enjoy many more just like this!
Shinee thought she did well with a full baked dinner for her birthday, but in view of Mouse’s celebrations she now feels a bit hard-done-by!
Her staff will have to lift their game next year!

    • katechiconi says:

A full baked dinner to herself sounds pretty good too! Mouse got his regular dinner with a few extra snippets of ours, so she shouldn’t feel too bad, but I did try and spread the fun out a bit (it made it more fun for the Staff, if I’m honest…)

  16. A belated birthday wish to Mr. Mouse. Sorry I missed it. It’s been one of those summers where I drop at the end of each day and have not been getting to posts. I’m sure he was well indulged as all dogs should be on their birthdays and everyday. I just can’t imagine forcing such a harsh life on such cherished creatures. I’m sure he knows how much he’s loved by you both. Here’s to many more.
