Floribunda, holidays – and we’re off

Miz Lizzie the caravan is packed.

And that includes the coffee machine, important food groups like chocolate and potato-based travel snacks, and of course, my sewing kit. While the majority of the handwork in it is hexies for the Days for Girls prizes, I’ve cut two sets of blocks for Floribunda.

First, a reminder of the colour scheme.

Is that not a lavishly luscious pair of colours? I’m so in love with the combinations! Having narrowed down the options from the full range in the two Bali Pop packs, I’m happy I have fabrics that will work beautifully together.

And here are the two blocks I’ve cut and packed to take with me. I do hope to have them ready by the end of the trip, but if not…. well, it just means we had a really, really good time!

Mouse is wandering around anxiously, watching us disrupt his peaceful existence and moving his Important Stuff. I feel doubly guilty because he had to visit the vet this morning for necessary immunisation shots, which he always finds very stressful, and a pedicure. But I’m willing to bet he’ll hurtle out of the house and into the car like a rocket tomorrow – he LOVES road trips! And he’ll be able to visit Miss Viv and his friend Bear the wolfhound at doggy daycare in Cairns, which he loves too. We’ll be in Townsville for a few days before that, and I plan to see and do lots of things we haven’t done before because we were always just passing through.

First stop tomorrow is Bowen, and the famous Jochheim’s Pies. I’m drooling slightly already….

He’s sending you a nose boop and a head waggle to show he’d like to play, please. I’ll be telling all about the fun we have along the way, so watch this space.

My goodness, when you see all the pieces of this block laid out, I see how much hand stitching is involved for each block. Quite an project but it will be really beautiful as each stitch is added. Enjoy your travels and my dog Peanut wishes Mouse happy travels, too. 🙂

Wishing you all a fabulous holiday! So glad you’re able to scratch the travel itch — still a bit too risky where I am. Those blocks are going to be amazing! I’m sure Mr. Mouse will be in a forgiving mood once you all get on the road. Please give him some belly rubs and butt scratches from me. Safe travels!

We’ve been lucky here in North Queensland, few cases and virtually no community transmission. As we’re heading north, we’re moving away from what cases there still are, so it feels very safe. Mouse is still a bit wary, even if he is lying belly up on our bed demanding belly rubs. His bowls have disappeared, and his blankie, Something must be going on… He’ll know the minute he sees his car-nest. Oh, the excitement!

Loving your block colors, have a great time, Kate!

    • katechiconi says:

They’re fab, aren’t they? I’ll be posting along the way, as usual, and hopefully there will be some new things to show as well as all the old favourites…

  13. Have a wonderful trip and I love the squares. Like Mr. Mouse, I too get anxious when things get moved for travel. But then the fun begins. 😉

    • katechiconi says:

Oh, he’s quite happy about it all now. As soon as it was clear it was Road Trip time, he was on board. He’s been walked, petted and fed, and now he’s out for the count with his pillow and blankie. And of course, he got to quality test our pies at lunchtime…

  14. Happy and safe travels, and especially lots of scrumptious foodie things.

    • katechiconi says:

We managed the traditional First Day Pie in Bowen (Mouse was only to happy to help out there…), and tomorrow, we’re heading up Hervey’s Range to the tea rooms up there, which are doggo-friendly, so we shall see what His Majesty thinks about the puppacinos there.

  15. cedar51 says:

You’ve on your way no doubt and eaten the pies on route…safe travels and we look forward if it’s at all possible “words from Mouse” on how you are all behaving…

  16. I am just swooning over those colors. I swear there’s something almost physical in our reactions to beauty. Seeing these patterns together improves my day.

I don’t know if you remember that I have a mild case of synaesthesia, but I get some rather excitable woodwind: think Vivaldi Piccolo Concerto in C Major 🙂

Those colours are just gorgeous! Have a good trip 🙂

Lucious colors 🙂 enjoy your adventure!

They totally are, aren’t they? So far, Mouse would like you to know that he approves of the arrangements and is looking forward to our trip up ithe mountain today or tomorrow.

Very jealous of your travel plans. We are just about to go into “tier 3” status here in Nottingham on Thursday, which means no leaving our immediate area to visit areas still in “tier 2”, no overnight stays anywhere and no meeting up with anyone outside of your immediate household (unless you are in a “support bubble” with someone who lives alone). Being a bit of a hermit it doesn’t affect me day to day that much, but I would love to be able to plan a visit to my sister – who knows when we will see one another again? I hope you have / had a lovely trip.

    • katechiconi says:

It was fabulous, the weather was perfect, the rain held off and we discovered new places to enjoy. I know what you mean about restrictions not affecting you too much, but I’d definitely find it hard not to be able to travel when I wanted to. We’re very lucky in Queensland, not too many restrictions for too long, and because of the early border closure, very few cases, comparatively.
