The Travels of Mouse, north to the sun #2

Hello, readers, Mouse here again.

Well, yesterday was a bit dull from my point of view. After an initial bustle about, the Staff pulled out of the drive yesterday at about 9.45, a very late start compared with the usual 8am, but we weren’t in a hurry. I settled down to snooze in the back, my usual occupation on long trips. By lunchtime, we’d reached Bowen. Mum says it’s where they shot the movie Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. From our point of view, it’s where Jochheim’s Bakery is, source of (so far), the best meat pies in Queensland and northern New South Wales. And meat pie there was. And a sausage roll. Even I got a bit and I’m normally not allowed pie because of what pastry does to my insides, but we’re on holiday.

We had lunch sitting at the beachfront, overlooking the harbour. Nice memories for me, because it’s where Mum and Dad stopped when they’d just adopted me in Townsville, to let me stretch my legs and, ahem, see to other needs.

We got to Townsville mid-afternoon and got set up. Dad likes the caravan park here, the showers in the en-suite sites are good and hot and strong, and there is plenty of room to walk me without needing to leave the park.

They have set up my private enclosure so I can move around outside the caravan without needing to be tied up (a barbarous requirement as far as I’m concerned, but there are some very noisy, yappy, grumpy small dogs here, so I suppose it makes sense).

Today, we are going to go and find a fenced dog park or two where I can stretch my legs. After a day in the car and no long (ie, over 2km) walks with Mum, I’m feeling the need to do some zooming! After lunch, we’ll visit Miss Nikki, and perhaps a motorbike friend of Mum and Dad if he’s free.

It was cold last night, and was a bit fresh this morning when Mum took me for my constitutional at 7am, but it has warmed up considerably now. The sun is warm, the sky is clear and blue, and it’s going to be a good day.

More tomorrow. Mouse

  1. Mornings Mouse Boy🐾🐾
It’s beautiful and sunny here in Melbourne too and it’s so sad we can’t go out and enjoy it on the bike 🏍😓But it is what it is … my backyard is beautiful and full of flora and forna for my to enjoy in isolation 😊
So glad to see you’ll have arrived safely and set up camp. The skies look so lovely and your enclosure looks quite palatial.
Enjoy your visit today and post more pics if you can. Love & hugs to mum & dad 🥰

Hello Aunty Chippy! I’ll get Mum to take more photos, that phone camera is too fiddly for my paws. It has warmed up beautifully, and I’m snoozing in the grass after helping Mum by pre-washing the plates from lunch for her. I’m rather partial to scrambled egg with bacon and spinach…. I have to give the Staff time to digest their lunches and then I really must insist we go to the dog park, I’m itching to run! The Staff send their love back, and really do wish you were in the site next door! Mouse 🐾 xxxx

Wow! Pasties and sausage rolls. Yum! Hope you don’t have any tumbly rumblies. Your enclosure looks nice and spacious — plenty of room to do a little stretch. Looks like you got some belly rubbins too. Hope you get a chance to do your zoomies soon. Have fun on the next leg of your trip and be good to Mum & Dad! ❤️

    • katechiconi says:

Hello Miss Marty, no, my tummy is fine, thank you. Dad has set out the enclosure rather well. I have grass to lie on as well as the concrete pad for my bed. A couple of times I have sneaked back up the steps and hijacked Dad’s bunk. He doesn’t mind, but Mum says she is Not Pleased, especially as I have a perfectly nice bed of my own… Zoomies coming up soon, I hope! Bye bye, Mouse

I always look forward to Mouse’s posts! Thank you for sharing him with us!

  4. Happy times, Mouse. Enjoy x

  5. Sounds like a good start… I’m pleased you got to have a bit of pie. On our trip we took your human’s advice and stopped at the bakery where we enjoyed a tasty lunch too. Next time Deez will get to taste test.

Today, Mum made me biscuits, just for me! Egg, PNB and almond meal, baked in the oven. They’re very tasty. I think she’s experimenting because I have a Very Important Day coming up, and she plans to make sure I celebrate in style. (It’ll be his 4th birthday – Mum)

Well Mouse sounds like there is a good day ahead for you. Have a great time.

Thank you, Miss Cathy, it was a very good day, and I got to say hello to Miss Nikki and Miss Gail and the other doggos waiting to be adopted. Miss Nikki says it has been an amazing year for adoptions, and that I must have started a real trend 🙂

We find car journeys boring too! Sleeping means there’s plenty of energy for zoomies and fuss when we arrive. Sometimes if we drive through a town we sit up and get waves and smiles from people in the next lane at traffic lights or in traffic jams but otherwise there’s no point staying awake. Your enclosure looks good – keeps all those other dags out of your way. Keep the staff on their toes and make sure you get lots of treats. We’ll get Mum to read out your next post when it comes. Roo and Orchid.

I’m really enjoying the enclosure, it offers me choices of cool bare concrete, a padded quilt for snoozing on, and soft grass to have a roll. Also it means I can look down my long and pointy nose at the scruffy little dogs being dragged past on their leads, making noises like squeaky toys… Mum will type my next post tomorrow, but not till the evening, as we’re upping sticks and off to Cairns in the morning.

WOW! That is a very nice fence…fences like that make one feel like there are NO fences [in areas where there are always teeny tiny fences]. So good to have a bit of SPACE! Boomer

    • katechiconi says:

Hi Boomer! The nice thing about this fence is that Mum and Dad can make it fit all kinds of shapes and spaces and I always have fun sniffing out all the corners and boundaries every time they set it up. Nose boop, tail wag, Mouse xx

  9. Steph (and Shinee) says:

Have a great trip, Mouse and Mouse’s staff!

We drove to Cairns with Shinee for Christmas in 2018, and very much wish we were doing it again right now!

    • katechiconi says:

Hello, Miss Steph and the beautiful Miss Shinee! It’s one of the Staff’s regular places, so I look forward to being a regular visitor. I hope you’ll visit again sometime soon, and maybe I can introduce myself to Miss Shinee if our visits ever coincide 😉

  10. Joanne S says:

Ah, I remember enjoying the movie, Australia. Sounds like this is turning out to be a lovely trip. Enjpy!

    • katechiconi says:

Hello! It’s definitely being a fun trip! I love travelling in the car and staying in the caravan, especially when there are new smells and places to investigate, and I get admire by people passing by 🙂

  11. Amanda says:

The staff are learning Mouse! Well done 😄
