Heaven for Beginners #3: 30% done

It’s moved on a bit since last time.

I have all the blocks quilted. I also have a third of them trimmed out and joined together. Most of the joining strips are cut, just a few more needed. Do you know, I think I might make it in time after all…

Of course, it helps that I’ve now done so many of these that I don’t really have to think, and measure and calculate. I know I have enough fabric; I know what sizes the strips need to be; I know the best order in which to join it all up. I think, too, that the quilt will be large and cosy enough as it is, without my needing to add a border around the outside. Which is another time saving, of course.

Only one small downside of all this progress: there won’t be any Bee, Myself and I sewing this month.

But that’s a small price to pay, I think.

The pale purple binding works really well! And as long as you are enjoying yourself as you are making it I think it is ok to skip some other things.

It sounds like you can see the finish line and it’s looking good.
I was worried that I had interpreted your colours rather differently from some of the other contributors but, now I see them all together like this, there is really good coherence between the blocks.
You’ve reminded me that I must get my F2F3 quilt back off the bed and make a label for it.

No, there’s a great range of colours, ranging from your more reddish plum to very dark aubergine with delicate pastels in between. It all sings beautifully together. I’m so at home with QAYG these days that it’s not stressing me at all to put the thing together. I just need to keep the momentum going so I don’t get complacent and then run out of time. And then once that’s done, I can start February’s F2F blocks!

It’s going pretty fast, I think. And looking good, too!

It is; I’m nearly halfway through assembling the bottom third. After that, there’s two full-width seams and then just the binding and label. She’ll have her quilt before she leaves for uni 🙂
