Welcome once again to ScrapHappy Day!
It’s the day my friend Gun in Sweden and I host ScrapHappy, a day for showing something made from scraps.
Days Gone By. Now gracing someone else’s home without my consent, or worse still, decorating the council dump. Grrrr.
You will recall from a recent post that this lovely went missing, and it has not been recovered despite all efforts.
It took a day of misery, some tears and a very large bar of chocolate to bring me to my senses. It was a scrappy quilt. Those pieces would normally have been thrown away. All that was lost was my time and some bits of paper.
So, well, I started again.
I still had the photo of the arrangement of hexies I wanted to add to the bottom of DGB#1. So I just took that as my start point and cracked on. In the unlikely and miraculous event that DGB#1 turns up, I can just add this piece as originally planned. If not, well, it becomes the top of DGB#2. Simple!
ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps of anything – no new materials. It can be a quilt block, pincushion, bag or hat, socks or a sculpture. Anything made of genuine scraps is eligible. If your scrap collection is out of control and you’d like to turn them into something beautiful or useful instead of leaving them to collect dust in the cupboard, why not join us on the 15th of each month? Either email me at the address on my Contact Me page, or leave a comment below. You can also contact Gun via her blog to join. We welcome new members. You don’t have to worry about making a long term commitment or even join in every month, just let either of us know a day or so in advance if you’re new and you’ll have something to show, so we can add your link. Regular contributors will receive an email reminder three days before the event.

A good amount of chocolate fixes most things doesn’t it. Good on you for taking the remainder and starting again – that’s a fabulous outlook to apply to most of life’s events! I’m so sorry the lost piece has not been found though – I felt sure someone would hand it in. I am in the middle of a big sort out and reconfiguration of my art room and while I am finding lots of little intriguing offcuts and leftovers (as well, let’s face it, as some utter trash), nothing has been done with them as yet. There’s always next month 🙂
I find chocolate gets on really well with my tastebuds but not quite so well with my insides, so I tend to limit consumption, but this time a shock dose was called for!
I hope to see some scrappiness emerging from your clear-out soon 🙂

A very sensible solution. I admire your positivity and resilience.
I don’t really do despondency much, and this is such an obvious way forward.
I love your attitude ~ it was only scraps ~ but I can appreciate that it took some time (and let’s not forget the chocolate!) to get you there. This one will be different, but no less lovely. And hopefully the original is being enjoyed by someone who appreciates it.
I’m hoping this one will have the same randomness and spontaneity. I’ll definitely be much more careful with my work in future. I may, in fact, make several large pieces which don’t get joined until the last minute. That way, if one is lost or damaged, it’s not the whole thing.

Chocolate… Very good! Sad the other quilt never turned up but happy you have bounced back and are moving full speed ahead.
I think the medical benefits of chocolate are greatly underestimated 🙂
On the plus side, you won’t have to think about what to post about for Scraphappy Day for even longer now – plus you have chocolate.

It´s so hard to loose a quilt like you did! I would have eaten a whole chocolate store and a lot of ice cream to go with that, before I felt like thinking positive about it. I´m glad you decide to start a new one instead 🙂
Too much is as bad as not enough… I’ve put it behind me now, time to get on with a new quilt!
I admire your resilience , and the new scrappy quilt is pretty too. Have faith that the old one may turn up one day.
I prefer to not hope in vain, and then I’ll be wonderfully surprised if it does turn up, rather than pining for it for ages.
Probably the best thing to do was start on a new one, but oh the pain of losing #1. Perhaps there is someone, somewhere, who really loves that first one and can’t let it go… I sort of hope so.
I agree it’s a much nicer thing to contemplate than the whole thing reaching landfill…
Good attitude to have, and one can only hope that the first one will still find a home with someone.

I think we could write a story, or a children’s book, imagining the travels of your quilt, with perils along the way but a happy ending . . . good to see the new one taking shape . . .
I’m still a bit too sad about it just yet. It’s hard to think that someone has just taken it, and made no attempt to find its owner or think how much distress its loss might cause. I’m sure someone is very happy to have it, but I’m not quite ready to turn it into cheerful fiction…
Kerry had a brilliant idea – a children’s book ~ along with a child’s size twin bed quilt – this could tap into a whole new venture for you 🙂 ….. I am happy to see you starting a new one, it’s such an awesome project!
From my side of the story it doesn’t read well: ‘The tale of the quilt who was lost, whose sad and anxious mum couldn’t find it, and who had to go and live with strangers’… I’ll just limit myself to making another one 🙂
I enjoy your positive attitude on this loss and how you have picked up and just continued on with what you have on hand. It will get done and it will be good!
It will, and I hope to make some good progress on it while we’re away on holiday for the next 2 weeks.

I still have a large basket full of them from early on in the process. I spent several months making hexies and hexie flowers before I started assembling the first quilt, so I do have a bit of a head start with what I hadn’t used yet.
Well done on your resilience. Not easy to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start afresh with a positive outlook, but in the end it’s the best thing to do. The new quilt is looking good!
In the end, I think, it’s the *only* thing to do. I could nurse a grudge forever, or I could get on and make something pretty.
Absolutely! But still well done for being the sort of person who chooses the right path. Not always easy to see the wood for the trees.
It is so sad the first one didn’t find its way home but we’ll done for starting again with your spare hexies. I hope the chocolate fairy replenished you stock soon but you don’t need any more large doses.
The chocolate fairy’s told me I’ve had my lot for the next six months… We’ll see if she changes her mind once I’ve got a big piece assembled; a celebration might be in order!
I’m so sorry it hasn’t turned up. I was really hoping it was a mistake that would be corrected, or somehow come home again. You’ve done the right thing in preparing either way. Chocolate makes everything better. I just had some myself. =)
I hoped so too, for a couple of weeks, but I’ve had to conclude it’s gone, either stolen or into the refuse system. Maybe if I stop hoping for a miracle, I’ll receive one…

I think I definitely have extra motivation, a sort of “I’ll show that thieving b…..”. Sadly, I’ve had to lay off the chocolate – for now!
You are made of plucky stuff to keep going after such a loss but I expect nothing less from you. It’s going to end up lovely and all those photos will be very helpful.
They will indeed. I may not be able to duplicate the original completely, but it will look very similar, I think.

It’s nearly a month now. It’s gone. Sad, but life goes on.
