The fundraiser was yesterday.
The event was fantastically successful. In the three years the Nude Lunch has been going, the number of attendees has doubled, the sponsors have quadrupled, and the sum raised has gone from $70,000 in 2018 to over $100,000 this year, nearly half as much again.
The proceeds fund a dedicated ovarian cancer palliative care nurse in Mackay, with the balance going to ovarian cancer research.
Those of you who worked on the quilt, who encouraged and offered support, you helped to make that happen. Thank you.
Here’s a link to our local TV news network’s FB page, with their coverage of the event. (It’s on mute, so you need to turn up the sound at bottom right) Sadly, you don’t see the quilt, but it gives you an idea of the scale of the thing. I’ve checked with the Nude Lunch directors, and they’ve told me that the bidding was enthusiastic and the quilt raised $1,230. Again, thank you.
We’ll be doing it again next year. If you’d like to be a part of it, whether again or for the first time, do get in touch. I promise I’ll give us a more reasonable deadline this time!
Well done, you lot. And thank you.
Wow. What a result.
Good, eh? All the hard work is worth it when the results are spectacular.
My gosh, no idea how much that was in sterling, but it sounds like a huge sum. Well done everyone and especially well done Kate.
Nearly £700, I think…. And it was a team effort!
Yes! ❤
And I want to participate again next time.
Then you shall 🙂 After all, who can forget the Dog Star!
😊
Wish there were a “love” button I could click on. Well done!
I wish there was a Hug button, so I could say thank you properly!
Got it without the button!!!!
🙂
well done to everyone!
Thanks!
Well done!
Everyone did great work 🙂
Fantastic! I enjoy being part of the teal team (count me in for next time – I’ve just bought new supplies) and I’ll bet it makes all your design, quilting and assembly work worthwhile when it’s all such a success.
It does make me feel that all that love and goodwill we’re sending out is actually reaching a target. Glad you’re on board for the next one too xx
Wow! Well done Kate 🙂 Count me in again next year 🙂
That’s great! And the well done is for all of us 🙂
Thank you for the update ~ fabulous ~ I enjoyed seeing the video too! Here’s to a labor of love, healing and cure ~ I would love to participate again 🙂
Glad to have you! I thought the video clip helped to convey how much goodwill there is for this cause.
WOW! That’s a nice amount of change! Well done!
Yes, I thought so too!
Wow! Great job ~ Wonderful results!
Isn’t it? I’m so proud of the team.
Wow. Hurray for those with deep pockets and appreciation for the handmade! I’ll do it again if I can. 🙂
Exactly! And I hope we’ll have you on board for the next one, health permitting.
How wonderful – well done everyone!
A really great result for the team 🙂
I was sorry to miss this go around, but hope to join in the next round. Such a great cause – congrats one and all!
We’d love to have you. Just look out for the call to action post!
Great result. The event coverage looked fabulous… couldn’t see you though 🙃
I wasn’t there. The tickets were just a bit out of my price range!
Hmmm, maybe next time a fundraiser so you can go, only fitting.
To be honest, I’d rather the organisers had another ticket to sell… Big gala events aren’t really my thing, and while it would have been exciting to see the quilt auctioned, it wouldn’t affect the result.
That is a terrific result, well deserved for everyone’s beautiful work.
I think so too. It really was a beauty, and I must turn my thoughts to a new theme that will inspire everyone to the same beautiful work.
Oh well done everyone! It was a beautiful quilt, and raised a good amount for a very deserving cause. The TV coverage was good publicity too, with your friend Trudie being honoured. I agree with Dale…a fundraiser to get you there next year (although I think the organisers should be able to wangle a free ticket for you).
I think it would be better if they kept the free ticket and sold it to someone else. It’s a fair amount of money, and I’m not much of a party animal! What I do wish is that someone had recorded the auctioning of the quilt on their phone so I could see it. That would be quite enough excitement for me 🙂
congratulations to everyone involved and especially to you, Kate. The quilt looks lovely and what a wonderful amount for a very special cause. Thank to all of you. 🙂
It’s a great result, isn’t it? I’m so pleased, and proud of the team’s beautiful work.
Woo hoo!!! What a marvel you are in organizing this Kate:). We all love you!!❤️❤️
I couldn’t do it without the others. I organised, but everyone contributed parts of the whole.
I’m so happy that it went so well!!! I’m with you, stay on the sideline and hear about the fun from a distance.
That’s it, exactly. But I would have loved to see the bidding so I could pass on a little of that excitement to the others….
You got it there on time and they paid almost what it was worth. That’s a big deal in my book. Time to pat yourself on the back for a job well done along with all the others who contributed. I haven’t bee able to sew in ages. ;( Soon, winter is coming. 🙂
And down here, summer is coming. I’m dreading the heat a bit, which has started early. Lots of skulking around indoors in the shade and cool… Perfect excuse for sewing, I think!
Cheers! It is good to see bidding worth the quilt.
It is, isn’t it? Great to be able to tell the team that their work is valued and appreciated.
That is a very nice result, congratulations! I’d like to contribute next time but I’m currently already happy if I have time to occasionally keep up with some blogs so perhaps I could sponsor some teal fabrics or something else instead of sewing blocks.
That’s a very kind offer, and I think it would be very helpful when the time comes. I completely understand that raising a little person is very time consuming, and I’m just grateful that my own fur child does so much sleeping!
If it was still just the one little person it would be possible to get some sewing time but it has recently turned into two and that’s a whole new level of staying busy!
Oh my goodness! Congratulations! But I do quite see why you don’t have much time to sew any more…
Thank you! They do both nap during the day but not so much at the same time unfortunately. It will get better, someday…. 😉
That’s a wonderful outcome but, of course, I think the quilt was worth way more than $1200! You all did a beautiful job and you should be very chuffed to have been the fearless leader who made it all come together!
In terms of woman hours, yes, but its value to the cause is what someone’s been prepared to pay for it, so there we are. I’m glad it’s such a good result compared with what the quilts were raising through Ovarian Cancer Australia, which was very poor by comparison.
Congratulations on such a job well done. $1230 is fantastic and has to be very satisfying for all of you who worked on this wonderful project. Can’t wait to see what you design for next year.
I’m really pleased for everyone: the organisers, the beneficiaries, and of course, us! For the next one, I have an idea percolating already but I’d like to do a bit more work on it first, and it’s not time to announce it yet.
I´m glad we can help raising money. I´ll definitely be joining you next time!!
That’s great, I’m so glad!
That’s incredible! Well done to you and everyone who contributed 🙂
It is good, isn’t it? I was really pleased when I heard, because sometimes there just isn’t the interest and it goes for much less than the amount of work justifies.
Fantastic! Congratulations to everyone involved.
Thanks! I think everyone is pretty pleased – especially the charity!
Congratulations all, what a nice sum you got for the ovarian cancer plaid ! But it is a stunner !!
Yes, it was a great result after everyone’s hard work 🙂
Great result Kate, I am happy to join in again for such a great cause and it is very close to my heart. I have also added a few more teals to the stash, just can’t resist when I see them. Thank you for all your hard work.
Great! We’ll be very glad to have you along again. You made me laugh about slipping a few new teals into the stash – once you’ve been bitten by the teal bug, you’ll see them everywhere!
Wonderful news for such a great cause. Everyone who worked on this project: congratulations!
It was a great result, wasn’t it? A really worthwhile outcome for everyone’s hard work.
