Go Teal it on the Mountain #20: quilting done

It was pouring with rain today.

That meant I had a clear run at getting the quilting finished, and it’s done. I really like this chevron effect, which is so right with the pointy mountain peaks, plus it feels lovely and ripply under my hand without being at all stiff.

It’s not totally in focus, but to get the whole thing in shot I was balancing on one leg while leaning across my sewing table…

I’ve also had a couple of goes at arriving at a final layout. I like how this is looking, but I’m almost too close to it now, so if anyone feels there’s something out of place or which jumps out at their eye, please let me know. As always, I’m grateful for your comments but may not act on them if I don’t quite agree…

I have to put this aside for a few days now, as I have FยฒFยณ blocks to work on and get out well before Christmas. I’ll probably trim the blocks out first, though. Next time you see it, I hope to have made a start on joining them up.

It’s gloomy, wet and windy out there, so the Husband has set out to forage for pizza!

Well done you! The layout looks fine to me – the whole thing is absolutely wonderful and if I lived in Australia I might put a bid in for it myself ๐Ÿ˜Š

I spent a fair while fiddling around with it, and I’m pretty pleased with how it looks now. Shame you don’t know someone heading your way from Down Under… ๐Ÿ™‚

I love it. Bet the pizza was yummy.

Does the Ovarian Cancer charity accept bids from abroad?

Well done getting the quilting finished, that must feel good. The layout looks good to me, nicely balanced…….oh wait, is that pizza sauce I see there, down near the front! Sorry, couldn’t resist ๐Ÿ˜„

I like the layout a lot, especially with that big full moon right in the middle! I also like pizza a lot . . . just sayin’ . . .

    • katechiconi says:

I agree, on both counts. The big moon really had to go in the middle, and it was a pizza sort of an evening; it’s been a very busy weekend. There are leftovers for tomorrow. Just sayin’…

  7. These are really lovely blocks. The quilt will be stunning. Hope it raises a ton of money!

    • katechiconi says:

It’s going to be really striking; some of those mountains have real drama. The narrow sashing will be cream and I’ll bind it with teal. Fingers crossed for a good result in the silent auction.

  8. Everything about this block is simply stunning!

    • katechiconi says:

Everyone’s done an amazing job, I can’t believe how brilliant the finished thing is going to be! It’s a really great collection of mountain block of every conceivable kind.

  9. I love the way the quilt looks but of course I would. You have an excellent eye. I miss pizza. I love it, it no longer loves me. ;( Good husband you have there. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • katechiconi says:

I’m glad the layout works for you, I think your eye is pretty good too. Pizza doesn’t love me back quite as much as I love it; the day is coming when I shall have to ration my intake a lot more…

      • Chili went several years ago then spaghetti and now pizza. No fun at all. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

For me, it’s lactose and any form of onion. Garlic’s fine, though, which is just as well, or I’d starve to death without it!

      • Wow! We are both lactose intolerant and I can’t do onion in any form either!! People think I’m nuts. I’ll load up on garlic which keeps me from catching colds or viruses but onion makes me quite ill. I really fight the call of cheese though. Tried the vegan brands but they leave me flat. Oh well, things could be worse. No one starves in this house. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Obviously. ;( Keep taking care of yourself.

Kate, it’s always exciting when you’ve come this far. I don’t know how you manage it. It is going to be lovely. โค

This stage of a quilt is always simply the result of plugging away and then lots of squinting and back and forth to shift the blocks around. It’s such a beautiful and varied collection of blocks I’d have to work quite hard to mess it up!

I love it! And I also like hand quilting!

  12. To my totally untrained eye it looks amazing as always …. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I think you have the composition just right. In fact I am surprised at how the blocks balance so well ~ the two pointy ones in the top corners, the row of moons down the centre, the ones with fluffy shapes (one was cotton growing if I remember) and so on. The more I look the more I can see that symmetry, which satisfies me! And I enjoyed remembering the stories that came with each one. Well done to you all.

    • katechiconi says:

Yup, you spotted it. My own passion for symmetry is what informed this whole layout. Where I couldn’t match shapes, I matched colour intensity or paleness, for example. And yes, the moons marching down the centre.

  14. kathyreeves says:

I love it, and pizza too!

  15. knitnkwilt says:

I agree with everyone else who loves the arrangement. You had a lot of values and shapes to work with, but found a great balance.

  16. rutigt says:

I love it!!!! What more can i say!

  17. JJ Crafts says:

    I love how it’s looking. It’s very wanderlust-y

  18. Joanne S says:

How exciting! I think the layout looks fabulous, and the ribbon block is a great final touch.

  19. The Quilt Police says:

    This is absolutely stunning!
