Colours of Happiness #16: completed

I got the binding finished and the label attached last night.

That’s a fair bit quicker than usual, but two things were in my favour: the quilt is not huge, and the Husband was on night shift, so I had the evening to myself to power through. After yesterday’s post went up, I made the binding and had it ready to go. While the Husband was getting his afternoon sleep before starting work, I got it all attached and made the label. So all I had to do was fold over the binding and stitch it down, and finally, attach the label.

There was sun this morning (no big surprise there, no rain in sight yet…) so I hung it on the line for the traditional photos. As always happens when I hang a quilt up to take photos, the wind immediately came up and started whirling the clothes line around, making it rather hard to get a straight, in-focus shot… This is the best of a bad bunch, and even so, there are blurry areas on both of them. Never mind, at least I have a record. (And do you see how dry the grass is, and the bare earth showing through? Please, rain….)

So, a fond farewell to Colours of Happiness. There’s a long list of jobs waiting for my attention, so I’ll do the usual tidy up in the sewing room and then decide what’s next.

You’ll just have to wait and see…

Fabulous! I love that orange backing.

  6. So pretty — I love the oranges and pinks. Makes it look really lush and feminine, but not sissy.

I think Chippy will love the idea of her quilt being lush and feminine 🙂 It’s definitely not little girly, the colours are powerful and intense. Glad you like it!

  7. Beautiful in every way!

    Happy, happy, happy quilt.

Wow! Who needs sunshine with all that brilliance around? I am a little bit dizzy looking at all that hand quilting – well done you!

I reckon I could turn the lights off with this in the room 😉 I’m glad I did all that hand quilting, as it has given the quilt a completely different look and feel, very soft and cuddly.

  10. I am just sewing in the ends on my latest (mostly) scrappy blanket, which has taken much longer to make than anticipated but also looks better than I expected. I really like the point when a large project is finished and I get to choose what to do next. What is next in line for you?
Colours of Happiness really is a happy quilt and I love the idea of it going out to its new owner to spread joy.

Next on the list are this month’s F2F blocks, followed by starting to sandwich and quilt the Go Teal it on the Mountain blocks. And I’m looking forward to sending Colours of Happiness out into the world to spread more happiness!

I could never make a quilt this wild and free with colors–toooooo uptight! But i sure love seeing what you did–it’s just fabulous!

It’s not my usual comfort zone either, but having taken the plunge I found myself really enjoying the experience of quilting ‘at the top of my voice’ rather than humming along quietly… I really like the design too, and one day I might make it again, or something very like it, in my own favourite colours.

This is one very VIBRANT quilt, Kate! It is a stunner, and beautifully wrought. Congratulations!

  14. Yes, vibrant and oh so lovely. I clicked on the photo with the tag so I could take a closer look. What a great tag! As for rain…I wish I could send some your way. In central Maine, we have had a very rainy November. No drought here.
