Go Teal it on the Mountain #6

And another couple of beauties in for this quilt.

Squishy season is definitely upon us. There’s a couple more en route, and rather than go out to the mailbox only every couple of days (I get very little mail otherwise), I’m now excitedly checking it every day.

These two are from Lynda in the US, who’s made a couple of really distinctive and beautiful blocks. You can’t see it so well in the photo, but the moon in block 2 has shadowy ‘craters’ in the fabric design – such a clever choice!

We now have 9 blocks on the design wall. Still a good few required, but we’re almost 30% done!

Wow – they are beautiful and so unique!

  2. Lynda says:

Thank you, Kate. Those craters are burn through from the black and white fabric I put underneath. 😉

Fabulous Lynda! Is the 2nd one applique?

Lynda’s blocks are very exciting additions aren’t they? Very interesting, modern and individual. I find the second one to be quite atmospheric – I do love a bit of ombré.

that line on the first block lifts what would otherwise be a fairly straightforward design into something very arty

It’s a very modern interpretation, which makes a nice contrast with other, more traditional blocks. I like the lightness of touch, too, it reminds me of a Chinese landscape painting.

These are great! So distinctive and striking!

Lynda was obviously very inspired by the mountain theme and the second block is absolutely gorgeous!

I am inspired, and now that I have my sewing room back, I can act!

This quilt seems to be developing a different feel than the other Ovarian Cancer Quilts. This one seems to have a more reflective quality, rather than the whimsy of the others. But I do love the blocks that you have shown so far. The line that defines the mountain in the first block is very neat!

I think the OCA quilts have all have quite distinct personalities. This one has a certain stillness and distance because of the theme, it’s true. I enjoy seeing how people are inspired by the work that’s been done so far, which is why I’m always keen to show blocks as they arrive.

  11. Those blocks are stunning.

    • katechiconi says:

Aren’t they? That very abstract one really draws the eye and has a lightness that contrasts beautifully with the more massive effect of some of the other blocks. Once I have a few more, I’ll post them on the design wall, so everyone can see how the colours are stacking up.

Beautiful modern blocks! i have finished my first block 🙂 The second one is a bit harder to find in my brain! But it´ll be there soon!

  13. loving this quilt. So pleased I found you. thanks.
