ST&D: all quilted!

Phew!  That’s a relief….

I have all 30 blocks of Signed, Tealed & Delivered quilted at last.

I was getting nervous about getting it done in time, but now I only have the standing-up jobs of cutting the sashing strips and trimming out the blocks to finish in the next few days, and the mostly sitting-down job of assembling it all to worry about. The outside binding strips are all cut already, and I think I’ll try and get the label done in the next couple of days too, so adding that when I stitch down the binding will be easy. Luckily that final stage is something I can do sitting down quite easily 🙂

I’m happy with the quilting. Wavy lines are not something to get too precious about so it’s pretty quick, the design really suits the nature and theme of the quilt, and I really like the texture you get from alternating directions.

So, tomorrow’s job is cutting 1 inch sashing strips in teal for the front and 1¼ inch sashing strips in cream for the back. If I get time, I’ll print out the label transfer, and iron it down onto cream cotton. Normally I apply the label at the bottom left hand corner, but I might put this one in the centre of the big ‘O’ on the back. I’ll see how it looks once the quilt’s assembled.

Incidentally, today is our 5th wedding anniversary. I looked back at the day’s post this time last year. Oh yes…. Cyclone Debbie had just passed by and we celebrated by cleaning mud off our floors, cutting up fallen trees and washing filthy wet towels. Things should be a lot more civilised this year. Except… I’m carefully watching that huge low pressure system wandering up and down our coastline. Just now, it looks like Townsville may be the favoured spot where it makes landfall, but you never know.

And it’s Good Friday, too. Hurray, Hot Cross Buns for breakfast, my favourite!

That will give you some breathing space, having all the quilting done and the other jobs to get it finished in hand. Happy anniversary, hope there’s not smidgen of mud or a fallen tree in sight.

Hmm. I’ve just had a look at WindyTV. Ex-TC Iris is heading our way and trying to get organised again. Looks like the worst of the weather is due to arrive just as I lurch out of hospital on my crutches 😉

  4. I’m all for the sitting down part. It’s just beautiful already. Those darn cyclones anyway. They always mess up plans. Have a happy anniversary and Easter.

  5. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Thank you so so much for including so many of us in this beautiful project for cancer:)❤️❤️. You are an amazing woman Kate! I think the center of the circle on the back would be the prfect place for the signature. Congratulations on 5 years of happily ever after!

Since then, I’ve trimmed out all the blocks and cut the sashing strips for the top third of the quilt. Gotta keep moving because soon I’ll have to spend several days on my bottom. Well, you know what it’s like not to be able to sew! Thank you for being a part of this quilt, and I hope you’ll join us again for future versions 🙂

Well done! The rest of it will help take your mind of the looming knee business a bit.
Happy Anniversary to you and the Lord of Chiconia – 5 years! you’re practically still on honeymoon.
Enjoy those hot cross buns – I hope they are yummily yeasty and gloriously glazed.

Oh, the buns… Mmmmmmocha! Chocolatey bun dough and coffee-flavoured chocolate chips. And now I have to go and wipe the drool off my chin. As a little light diversion from bun-scoffing, I’ve trimmed out all the blocks and cut sashing for the top third of the quilt. Assembly starts tomorrow.

  7. Gosh – I can’t believe it’s a whole year since Debbie.
Happy anniversary. I was planning chocolate orange buns, but other things got in the way…maybe later in the weekend…

I have to make a carrot cake on Sunday morning, as it’s the Dowager’s birthday. I shall add some orange juice and maybe a touch of cardamom to the recipe to make it a bit more interesting, and hopefully I can find some lactose-free cream cheese for the orange cream cheese frosting. Let’s have a Skype soon and catch up!

Next time I post about it I’ll have got some of it assembled. the plan is to get all the bits sewn together and the binding sewn on, so I can do the hand hemming on the binding while I have my leg propped up. So, no pressure then…

  13. It looks fabulous up there on the design wall. Just the finishing touches to do now.

  14. That is a stunning collaboration, Kate. It’s so beautifully planned and executed. I love it! Happy anniversary to you and the Mister. I remember your terrible weather last year. I hope the whole system passes you by.

Belated anniversary greetings! Hope the two of you at least had a yummy meal together on the day. Our 34th anniversary passed about a week ago with both of us in foul moods – not at each other, I’m glad to say, but at life in general. We finally feel like we’ve celebrated the start of another year with a movie (at home of course) and a delicious salmon dinner. Life is nothing if it’s not learning to roll with the punches!
