I can’t believe how quickly this has come round again!
Once again, it’s the day my friend Gun in Sweden and I host ScrapHappy, a day for showing something made from scraps.
This month, I’ve been digging for my pastel scraps in the teal and pink boxes, and I like the results! They’ll contrast nicely with the strong-colour blocks, but they still mop up those scraps really well. Next month, I think I’ll try for red and green.
ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps – no new fabrics. It can be a random or formal quilt block, a pillow or pincushion, a bag or hat, a collage or rag rug. Anything made of scraps is eligible. If your scrap collection is out of control and you’d like to turn them into something beautiful instead of leaving them to collect dust in the cupboard, why not join us on the 15th of each month? You can either email me at the address shown on my Contact Me page, or leave a comment below. You can also contact Gun via her blog to join. You don’t have to worry about a long term commitment or even join in every month, just let either of us know a day or so in advance if you’re new and you’ll have something to show, so we can add your link.

Lovely colors! I’m quite pleased with my finish this week. (Sorry, I won’t show pix for a few weeks.) I did buy a panel in the spring, which provided the center and some corner blocks. But everything else was scraps, small pieces, and leftover blocks, other than the yardage I cut for the outside border, back, and binding. And those I already had in stash, too. So it was a pretty effective scrap buster. I’m slowly whittling down the extra yardage I bought when my favorite shop closed in January. Still, it’ll be a few (3 or 4) more quilts until I feel like it’s all under control again. Maybe by year end…
It feels great using up serious amounts of scrap, doesn’t it? Like creating gorgeous new fabric from nothing. I’m loving the sound of your current project/scrap buster. I wish I had a good excuse to go out and buy a load of fabric but I find more and more that with small exceptions I’m only buying what I need for a specific project. Strange and unnatural behaviour for a quilter, I know, but it seems to work for me and is excellent for the budget!
It may be “strange and unnatural” but it’s my preferred way, too. When I go to buy something for a specific project, I often find another thing or two I want, also. But I almost never go shopping just for the sake of shopping. I don’t much find that fun or inspiring, generally. And I really have a preferred stash size and stick to it pretty well (aside from the quilt shop closing and deeply discounted prices from that.)
Wouldn’t it be lovely to see scrappy posts about all sorts of materials… wood, for example?
Those blocks are going to contrast beautifully with the earlier ones.
That really would be great, not to mention repurposing clothing, furniture – and how about Scrappy cars, a patchwork of parts?
I love all those ideas… I wonder if I can persuade my friend Alfred to join in – he has a blog and he makes all sorts of interesting scrap vehicles plus much more.
Do have a try. We could certainly use the variety, and I would like to make it less female-centric if we can!

Some of them are quite old, but it just shows you should never throw a good scrap away!
i was busy with visitors all day and forgot! Too dark now to take good photos so tomorrow……I have done yarny scraps too and a fabric scrap project.

You sure turned out a couple of pretty blocks! I’ll be glad when all my dark, muddied scraps are gone. (if ever they are!)
I have some of those too, and I’m wondering if I need to scatter a few darker blocks among the brights and pastels to eat them up… I’ll have to see if I have enough.

I love how those came together. They are both very easy on the eyes.
I’ve discovered the trick to making the blocks interesting is to allow other colours creep in, especially in the centre of the block. I like the pink one a lot (big surprise there, then…).

I can thoroughly recommend a good rummage! There are some really fabulous scrappy quilts out there, I have a whole Pinterest board devoted to scrappy ideas I’d like to make – one day!

I really enjoy scrap happy day, you guys always inspire me to think outside of my preferred orderly world!
I like orderly too, which I suppose is why my scrappy blocks are always tidy rectangles instead of crazy random shapes!
