Today, I’m doing what I’m told, and loving it.
That’s a much happier toe….
I had toenail surgery this morning, after months of trouble. After chemotherapy 3 years ago, my nailbeds were damaged and the nail didn’t grow straight, causing endless trouble. It wasn’t a fun experience, but after the initial shots of local anaesthetic, it was painless. And that should be that, hurrah!
It gives me the perfect excuse to stitch and not rabbit around doing other stuff. A nice cup of coffee, a slice of date loaf, and no standing or dashing around.
I’m under orders to sit down with my feet up. Oh dear…. it’s a hard life, isn’t it?

Always so much more enjoyable when it’s only occasional, I find! The toe is making its feelings known right now, but that will pass, and I have some sympathy – they removed a *huge* piece of nail from the side, I was shocked!
Oh, you have a tan, strap marks and pretty bright painted toenails… I’m envious. Mine are pale, boring and mostly encased in shoes.

I don’t always wear polish; this lot went on after the toe had been dealt with, to make the feet feel a bit happier about being traumatised! I don’t often wear closed shoes, except in the middle of winter. The Husband is getting a taste of what nursing duty is all about – so far it only involves a slighter greater than usual incidence of coffee making!

I hope the hurting hurries away soon. Enjoy being waited on hand and (ahem) foot.
Oh, good one. The Husband says he wishes he’d thought of that! He’s been extremely good about the coffee… It’s not too sore, the stuff I’m taking for arthritis knocks it out, I’m staying off it tomorrow and will be spending Friday on a motorbike pillion seat, so not too much standing involved…
Ouch! Toenail surgery doesn’t sound that daunting but I know it is supposed to be painful out of proportion to the size of the appendage. At least it’s made you slow down I suppose but for how long?
It’s sore if I walk, and virtually painless if I stay off it, so it’s a bit of a no-brainer. I couldn’t watch, the whole idea was just too yucky, but it was over quickly, and the podiatrist kept up an amusing trickle of conversation so I was distracted.
My youngest son is a Podiatrist who does such nail surgery of different degrees. He says it is very hard to rest feet so keep those pretty painted “piggies” well elevated and enjoy the nursing services. Heal up nicely!!!!
I’m being a good girl… I couldn’t resist the temptation to ‘decorate’ the bandage, and while I was at it, paint my toenails!

I bet you’ll be itching to be up and rushing around in no time, but follow doctor’s instructions!
You know me too well! But the toe is letting me know when it’s time to sit, so I’m being fairly well behaved!

I’m afraid I do have perma-tan marks on my feet and shoulders… Hard to avoid up here, when you spend 10 months of the year in sandals. I thought if I was going to show my feet I’d better make them look nice! I’m a great fan of bright pink polish!

Events conspire to keep me moving a bit, but I’m resting it as much as I can. It’s not as sore as I feared.
I’ll take advantage of my Permission to Slump on the Sofa as long as I possibly can! As for the face, it’s amazing how hard it is to use a Sharpie tidily on a rough bandage surface at arm’s length. You should try it some time!

It is, and makes shoe wearing impossible. It’s still painful, but will hopefully now start to improve gradually.

I’ve managed to keep most of it, but there was a large dagger shaped piece that was growing in an inappropriate place, and that’s now gone, thankfully.
Ooh, toenail surgery sounds horrid! Well, any surgery sounds horrible actually, but I guess the enforced idleness of convalescence can make up for it a bit – it’s nice to be able to sit still without feeling guilty!

It wasn’t bucketloads of fun, but neither was it nasty. Lots of tasty drugs are keeping any pain totally under control, and the facing borders of my quilt are taking shape!
Hope it doesn’t inhibit you too much whilst you are on your travels and that the enforced idleness doesn’t go on any longer than you would wish x
Since I’ll be roaring around the countryside on the back of the motorbike, I don’t see much inhibiting happening… I’m actually ready to stop being idle already, but the toe is indicating quite clearly that it needs a bit more elevation and immobility 🙂

Funny you should say that…. I’ve just polished off a very nice cuppa to go with the vanilla cupcakes I made earlier. It’s healing nicely, but isn’t very pretty yet.
Bob had this done several years back. I recall he was a sissy about the whole thing. Now that you’ve talked about yours, I guess I will have to recant my sissy assessment about his complaining. 😉

Look, it’s not fun, but neither is it earth-shakingly dreadful. And it wasn’t hugely painful, either during or after. My toenail is now a lot narrower than before, but if it prevents the constant soreness and frequent infections, it’s a small price to pay.
How is your toe now, all pain gone ?
Not quite yet. It doesn’t look very pretty, and is still very sensitive, but at least I don’t have the soreness of the corner getting infected.
I think it will be sensitive for quite a while, a foot operation is very painful as all your nerve ends come together in your feet (and in your brain) but being painfree will be a blessing once your toe gets back to normal !
Our poor feet, so unappreciated until something goes wrong. Glad to hear you’re honoring yours with some no-rabbiting days, and a charming personality sketched on the bandage.

I have to say, enforced rest was outstandingly enjoyable. There was no way I could justify my usual scurrying around…
