I love it when I hear the postman stopping at the mailbox at the end of our drive.
It means there’s something there. Mostly, of course, it’s bills, or junk mail, or for the Husband. More recently, though, it’s been for ME! Here’s what came this morning.
The kind and incredibly talented Cath from Wombat Quilts has send me the most beautiful cushion cover, done in gorgeous Essex linen and Liberty prints. I saw it when she posted it on her blog, here, and fell deeply in love with it. And now it’s MINE! She has also sent a generous pile of indigo and red scraps and larger pieces for Worldwide Friends, which is just what I need to give a bit of pizzazz to the top strip of the front. Cath really has the most enviable stash, and I’m very, very grateful to be the beneficiary of it!
The other bit of glory I received was this, an exquisite little sketchbook from Anne Lawson, a Melbourne-based artist who specialises in botanical illustration. Her feather illustrations are also remarkable, and I’ve acquired a couple of them! The sketchbook is made up of odds and ends from her own sketchbooks, with scribbled notes, sketches and little nature studies on many of the pieces. I’m greatly looking forward to trying to do justice to it with some calligraphy and maybe some sketches of my own.
Do go over to her blog and take a look at her beautiful work – she has an Etsy shop as well, which is well worth browsing in for more of her wonderful detailed and delicate drawings and paintings.
Please remember that the works depicted in these images are © Anne Lawson and you should contact her for permission to copy, Pin or use them in any way.
Surrounded by all this loveliness, I’m once again feeling excited and motivated to carry on. I’ll have a Worldwide Friends post ready soon.
Love the pillow cover!
Isn’t it fabulous? She’s such a star (pardon the pun) at paper piecing, and the Liberty prints she’s used are just perfect together.
I agree!
Oh I feel that I am blushing! Thank you so much for all those very lovely words about my work.
I think that pillow cover is stunning, and the scraps will be just the thing for your quilt. Isn’t it nice to get something that is not a bill in the letterbox.
Very nice indeed! I have already been struck by something I want to put on that central page with the feather…. Watch this space!
Wowee! Who’s the lucky one then? Gorgeous.
I feel exceptionally lucky today. Everything is perfect! I must think of a way to spread the joy….
But you do, just by blogging about it
🙂
Wow… oh Kate, you are really blessed… what a lovely cushion cover… and all these nice fabrics. I can imagine your excitement when you opened the parcel 🙂
And the sketchbook is so lovely – I love especially sketches and drawing of nature motifs (e.g. I love the drawings of Marjolein Bastin … do you know her?) I would like days to have double number of hours… I thonk then I would do more drawing … so I just illustrate my tutorial notetakings.
Yes, she’s a Dutch artist and illustrator, she’s done some really lovely children’s books. I feel very, very lucky today. I’ll have to work extra hard tomorrow to deserve it!
What lovely gifts… and so well deserved. The floral and patterns in the star are gorgeous. I follow Anne as well, her artwork is wonderful, I’m so pleased you have a notebook for your calligraphy.
That centre spread with the feather running across the gutter – I know exactly what I’m going to put there! Such a good idea, having the little illustrations and sketches; they spark off all kinds of ideas.
that pillow cover is absolutely stunning !!!!!! and so is the scetchbook !
I’m so lucky, and it’s been a great day!
I bet you love your postman !!!:D
Those feather illustrations are gorgeous. Such a lovely mail day for you! (It sure beat mine!)
Oh dear, sorry to hear that. Hope it improves! Anne’s such a talented artist, and she’s obviously spent a long, long time studying feathers!
Beautiful scetchbook!

What a lucky duck you are!
I know it!
I love star blocks and this is no exception. The quilting really makes it pop. Lucky you 🙂
I know… Her paper piecing is exceptional, and so is her colour sense. I adore that cushion!
Ooooh, I’ve clicked over to Anne Lawson’s etsy shop. What wonders!
Lovely, isn’t it? I want more or less everything there, but have had to restrain myself…
Wow, Kate! I sure have missed a lot since I went MIA… and aren’t you the most lucky person to receive these fine gifts! So very lovely!
(I’ve been reading backwards in time. 😀 )
Aren’t they fabulous? Blogging really does enrich life in all sorts of unexpected ways…
Yes!
