Stitch Along 9: Kowhaiwhai

I haven’t made huge strides on this, I’m sorry to say.

Other things have got in the way: the bike trip, dressmaking, putting up shelves and unpacking boxes, etc, and embroidery always seems to take the back seat. Probably because you need a little peace and quiet to do your stitch counting, and I haven’t been able to give it as much time as it needs… Still, it’s a quarter done, and some of the shapes are beginning to emerge. Since it’s a formalised and abstract version of a natural form, I can’t say “Can you see what it is yet?”!  It does let me stitch quite large blocks of one colour, which is nice and restful.

Do go and see what the others have been up to. I think my post goes up first, as I’m in the earliest time zone, so give them all a chance to wake up and get posting before you go looking!

Kowhaiwhai contains so much – the handwork, the community, the women, their chatter as they work or their silence as they weave, the story they are telling in their work and more. Kowhaiwhai stitching across the sea feels special.

  8. It’s nice to watch this one grow, even a little at a time. Savour the stitching if you want to. It’s lovey.
